There is a list of 101 best restaurants in the country that is out: https://www.thedailymeal.com/101-best-re ... ts-america

Welcome any thoughts/comments. I have been to a few, but not many.

P.S. The list sucks because it does not give you a location of the restaurant, just the name.

Amsterdam Falafel has the best falafel in Washington DC, and is open 23 hours per day!

For a more legitimate restaurant, "Willow" in Ballston (Arlington VA, a few metro stops outside of DC), is very good. But also pretty pricey.

What kind of food is it? (I guess I could google it)
What about a personal favorite dish?

Quick question:

Recommended authentic Indian restaurants in Los Angeles? (i.e. those that don't really cater to westerners).

Italian. I've gone a few times with my family, and we've always sampled each other's dishes - they're all excellent. I was particularly impressed with their seafood. And this is a place where you definitely can't skip dessert! The desserts are drool-worthy. I loved the white chocolate cheesecake and the cannoli.

Service is top-notch and the place has panoramic views of the strip. It's a bit expensive for being off the strip, but definitely worth the money.

Crown of India is always good. It is however, located in Hollywood area, but have gotten thumbs up from native Indians, and they weren't just being polite...

I have added the Las Vegas recommendation.

Also, I am dying of impatience to finally try The Herb Farm in Woodinville, WA. Earlier this week a crazy friend of mine mailed a hefty gift certificate, so now I have no excuse not to go :) Food report is to follow.

Excellent initiative, thank you all for your suggestions! :)

Here is my humble contribution:

A few more in Toronto:

Fressen Restaurant - mouth watering vegetarian entrees, excellent lunch and dinner options
Pulp Kitchen - also vegetarian, hidden gem known mainly to locals. They only use local fresh ingredients, all their sauces, spreads, etc are made in-house
Bravi Ristorante - another gem featuring mainly Italian dishes, a bit pricier than the two above. What is really cool about this place is that it has an elevator shaft, which you can book (goes quick so plan ahead) and eat dinner in. They send you to the top floor and you have all the privacy in the world. Sounds a bit bizarre but I promise it is a great experience. People celebrate special occasions there and I've had a few friends who proposed to their girlfriends at Bravi. A must go if you're in Toronto. It's an EXCELLENT choice for a date or if you just want to go somewhere quiet and have a good conversation accompanied with savory food and quality wine
Panorama - this is a bar but an honorable mention here - it's on top of one of the tallest towers in Toronto and you get to look at pretty lights, etc (think Beekman Tower in NYC). Highly recommended for before- or after-dinner cocktails, not suitable as a dinner option.

And one in Central NJ (Bordentown)
Villa Mannino - possibly some of the best Italian food I've ever had, not too pricy either

Detroit: Sweet Water Tavernhas amazing wings. I like wings, but it's not something that I usually seek out. But the wings here are ridiculous.

Sacramento:
Bangkok at 12 - My personal favorite Thai restaurant in the city. Their coconut milk soup and curry are really good.
OneSpeed - Their pizzas are amazing. Last time I went there, I got the eggplant parmesan pizza. Yes, seriously.
Ginger Elizabeth's Chocolates - OK, so it's not a restaurant, but her hot chocolate, macaroons, and chocolates are the absolute best I've ever had anywhere. Do not miss this if you make a visit to Sacramento.

San Francisco: Blue Bottle Coffee has really good coffee. It's tough to say that it's the absolute best without comparing side by side with some other amazing coffees I've had, but it's most certainly in the top 10%. Some locations (they're only within SF, so not a chain) also have food, which is also superb. Expect there to be a line out the door.

Santiago, Chile: Astrid & Gaston is expensive, but I had one of the best meals of my life here. This is gourmet food through and through. And a gourmet experience. If you enjoy wine, be sure to ask the sommelier for his recommendation.

Chicago: La Scarola has been recommended to me by someone who has a very good taste in food. Can't vouch for it myself, though.

If this is open for countries outside the US :

1) Ban Khun Mae in Siam Square,Bangkok - Absolutely amazing Thai food (Edited the name of the restaurant)

2) Street hawkers near One Raffles Quay in Singapore - open in evening only and serve Satay + liquor.

It is open to everything!
I think I just started the US since I was most familiar with it.

I can add in Singapore:

Maxwell Hawker Center – eat chicken rice at stall with Anthony Bourdain’s article – will be most crowded stall probably. It is very cheap - just a few dollars, and it is amazing how crowded it is compared to nearby stalls. Don't get tempted by imitators and copy cats - check for the stall number.

Raffles Hotel – get a Singapore sling drink and see the historic hotel. Warning - it is $20 for a drink. Ouch.

Try lunch or dinner at Banana Leaf – in Little India – great curries served on banana leaf – one option to get is the Fish Head curry (though I did not enjoy it that much)

Conrad Hotel has a fantastic breakfast/brunch

@Bb, people say the greatest delicacy of Singapore is the Chilly Crab - served mostly in Clarke Quay/Boat Quay :)

And the Singapore Sling is not that expensive in other places, Raffles Hotel charges you for the Brand Name perhaps :o

I'm exploring SE Asia for sometime and I'll keep posting the best food places. For example, I've plans to go to Bali in a few months and to local restaurants near coastal forests in Malaysia in coming few days for tasting the food those people serve in evening .

Singapore has Little India, China Town and Arab Street for ethnic delicacies; in China Town you can have food prepared from various types of exotic raw-material(herbs, veggies).

I recollect that me and two other guys were exploring South Korea, and trekking on Bukhansan Mountains outside Seoul. Two ladies from a local outlet served us "Khimchi", the Korean pickle, and I couldn't really stand the "firepower" of it :)
