Do you guys know when we have to deposit the money?? I haven't received any info on that yet...

The admitted students website says the tuition deposit is due February 28 and then the materials charge is due at the end of June.

On another note, does anyone know how Darden determines scholarships? Typical profile? I am about to leave town for the holidays and hate that my offer letter is going to sit in the mailbox for a week!

When I visited, Sarah Neher said that there are a variety of different scholarships targeting different groups of people. They have scholarships for the uber-high achievers, scholarships for military admits, scholarships for people with really strong ECs that might translate to the Darden community, etc.

Guys, dinged too..

did the guys who got dinged get a message about the feedback? Is that a standard message? I got a message that they will offer me a feedback in June. Not sure if this is a standard line they write for all dinged candidates.
Please comment.
Congrats to all those who got in.
Guys, who got dinged, don't get disappointed, even I am frustrated, but keep fighting, don't give up.

Hey guys,

I just wanted to share my experience with those who got dinged and waitlisted. I was waitlisted last year at Darden and even though I retook and improved my gmat, wrote email after email I was not able to convert to an admit. I got waitlisted or dinged at all other schools I applied to as well. It was pretty crushing, especially because I had interviews almost everywhere else. And this year I got admitted. So don't give up hope, especially if this is your first year applying. We all describe ourselves as the future superstar business leaders of the world - yada yada. But what would a real leader do faced with a setback even a defeat? Take a day off, drink some bourbon, eat some ice cream. And then plan your next move Anyway, i don't meant to lecture or say I have all the answers, I just know how it feels like, but I also know its not the end of the world. Stay strong friends

I WANT TO DITTO THIS!!!!!!! Because I'm on that same boat: applied and waitlisted last year. Tried to re-take GMAT (although receiving the same score) and kept writing emails to the school, but still couldn't pull it off last year. But it took those kinks to help me see that my acceptance this year as a re-applicant is much more cherishable and the feeling of not only succeeding in something, but being able to bounce back from where you fell, is just INCREDIBLE!!! I promise! So, please don't dwell in the disappointment or you will dig yourself into a hole. There's still plenty you can do before your next acceptance and you should have no time for discouraging yourself. Keep your head up and you will eventually get there. Best of luck!!!!!!

I just got my package today! I'm an international applicant!

Wow, I got a merit-based scholarship of one-half tuition that can be renewed for the second year if I maintain a 3.0 avg after my first year.
Does this mean half tuition for sure and then the other half if I maintain the grade?

Wow, that's awfully kind of Darden. I didn't ever think my gmat/gpa were that great.

Do they award scholarships for a lot of people?

Wow, congrats mpg2011 - that's awesome! Just curious - did it come via normal mail, or FedEx? Looking at last year's thread, it looks like at least one person got an email with a FedEx tracking number and I was just wondering what to expect.

Thought I'd share what information I have.

Offer Letters - The person who admitted me said that they would be mailed via First Class mail. I didn't ask when they would be dropped in the mail. Maybe that only applies to domestic applicants.

Scholarships - After the admissions decisions are made, there's a separate scholarship committee that reviews the applications and awards merit scholarships based on whom they most want to see in the class. It sounded independent of both the admissions process and applicant statistics (GMAT/GPA). That's what I was told by the financial planning folks at Darden during my interview day, so take it for what it's worth.

Congrats mpg2011! What's your profile?

Where in the package did it notify you of the scholarship? What gifts did they include?

There were 3 letters on the package, the admit letter, one letter for international students and the scholarship letter signed by an alumni of 93 that's a current member of the scholarship committee. There was also a booklet with charlotesville, uva and darden basic info, a keychain and a car sticker.

I'm brazilian, female, advertising w/e and journalism major.

Umm, I'm starting to think scholarships are more about 'fit' and the class profile they want to build than amazing stats. I don't think a 710 gmat is amazing. In the letter I got they clearly said that after reviewing my "essay and application material" they thought I'd be a big contribution and bla bla... It's probably because I am non-traditional and have solid enough stats.

So yes, if you are in finance or have a more traditional background, it's probably harder to get financial aid.

I'm clearly not that strong of an applicant considering I'm waitlisted at Wharton and was dinged at HBS. So I'm pretty sure this was about fit and what Darden is looking for the class of 2014.

You domestic?

Nah, I am international, female, with a GMAT of 700... I guess that is where I took the beating... apart from my WE which is only 3.5 yrs and the conventional consulting background, and the fact that my grades are very avg. (3.3)... Heh, why on earth was I expecting to get a scholarship again!! :)

Have most/any domestic admits received their offer letters?
This is my latest thing to anxiously wait for.
