Is A correct here? Like compares noun with noun, action with action. Here Like compares "many other 18th-century mathematicians who compiled huge logarithmic tables" with Edward Sang. Is it parallel?

A.Like - > who compiled blah blah is a relative clause , many other 18th century is an adjective modifying mathematician. So if you break it into barebones format it is correct.
B.Just like -> Correct usage :Just like X , so as Y.
C.Just as with -> Incorrect comparison.
D.As did - > as in comparison requires a clause.
E.As had -> Same as D

Hi Bluelagoon,

I understand that option A is the correct coz LIKE compares two NOUNS,in this sentence - mathematicians and Edward Sang.

As you said 'who.....tables' is a relative clause........
it will be right if I say---"Who" modifies mathematician?

Why option B is incorrect?
If we choose option B then what will go wrong with the sentence?Will it change the meaning?If yes , how?

Looking forward for clarification.....

In this question i have a doubt regarding the usage of like.
We have learnt that like is used in comparison and is followed by a noun when we are using it for comparison.
In this sentence "Like many other  18th-century mathematicians " the noun is the underlined portion and the whole structure seems like a clause which does not look correct to me.
Instead the answer choice "As did" - option D seems a much better answer choice to me as it is used in the correct manner.

Kindly clear my doubt here in this regard.

As mentioned " Just like X, So as Y..." is it correct?

I answered D), and what caused me to do that was the fact that I reversed the clauses.
At least for me, it makes a lot more sense to say: 
Edward Sang experienced great difficulty to get his work published,  as did  many other 18th century mathematicians who compiled huge logarithmic tables.

I also get why 'like' would be correct. I was undecided between both but chose the wrong one. Definitely tricky this one..

Why is D) wrong tho?

Edward sang experienced ...... as many other 18th century .... experienced --- Comparing the action "experienced" - correct
ward sang experienced ...... Like many other 18th century .... comparing action with people - Wrong

Can someone, please, help? Not sure why A is correct and D is wrong?

(A) is fine because it communicates that Edward Sang was "like" other in that he experienced great difficulty.

(D) is correct as well. It's correct to say, "Edward Sang experienced, as did others."

(E) is arguably correct as well.

(B) is arguably correct as well.
