I know both schools place a large percentage of their class in consulting positions, but I was wondering if Yale's smaller student body gives students a slight advantage over Ross in getting into a top tier consulting firm. I've hear roughly 200+ students at Ross are looking to go into consulting, whereas Yale has less than 100, and that the number of students going to Bain, McKinsey, ect. is not significantly higher at Ross than it is at Yale.

What scares me is some firms (McKinsey) have a Ross recruitment page on their website but not a Yale SOM page. I plan on going to both the Ross and Yale accepted weekends but would like to know what you all think. Any thoughts are appreciated!

Smaller class size does not provide advantage on consulting recruiting. Some of the largest b-schools consistently place large number of students into top tier MC. Smaller class size may actually hurt recruiting, since there are less alum pulling for the school.

Having a well-developed page is a good indicator of the effort the company puts into recruiting at the school.

There are materially different placement rate to top tier MC between Michigan and Yale: top-consulting-school-by-placement-at-mbb-138975.html

While I totally understand asimov's point regarding alums and having an established presence, I can also tell you that it hasn't stopped MBB from coming to SOM campus and giving out 1st round interviews to about 20% of our class. Keep in mind that about 30% of each class at SOM ends up going into consulting, so you can use that as a benchmark. I can also tell you that my classmates who are looking to go into consulting have certainly not felt crowded by the number of people applying. I'm not sure if this is because MBB is offering more on-campus interviews this year, (our class grew by about 10% from last year), or if there are a greater percentage of people looking at other sectors, but it seems to be a standard process. I will let PD2012 and MAJMMM answer more specifically, since I don't have firsthand information.

I'm also highly adverse to talking down other schools, (aside from that, I was accepted to, and really liked Ross), so I will say that Ross is excellent for management consulting. Again, I think it comes down to culture and fit. The place that you feel more at home, more willing to collaborate and help each other out, that is the place you'll be more successful at. I know that's probably not the MOST helpful, but hopefully PD2012 and MAJMMM can add some actual color.
