A higher interest rate is only one of the factors, albeit an important one, that keeps the
housing market from spiraling out of control, like it did earlier in the decade.

??? keeps the housing market from spiraling out of control, like it did
??? keep the housing market from spiraling out of control, as it did
??? keeps the housing market from spiraling out of control, as it did
??? keep the housing market from spiraling out of control, like

Why are we using "Keep" instead of "keeps"
Hello, kashishDhir. The answer is that that is being used to mark a relative clause, one that specifies certain types of factors within a larger number of them, thereby separating these factors from those that do not prevent the housing market from going out of control. That is, these factors keep the market in check, and a higher interest rate is only one such factor. The sentence would be conveying something different altogether if it placed emphasis instead on a lone factor: A higher interest rate is the only one of [all] factors... that keeps...

You may want to poke around on the forum for more information on relative clauses. This post should get you started.

Good luck with your studies.

Hi, could anyone please help me with Q9?

Isn't option B talking specifically about one particular banana which has high levels of potassium and other minerals?
Shouldn't we talk collectively about a category of fruits, as represented by Bananas in option D?

Thanks! souvik101990

Hi harsh497, since this is an unofficial question, nothing much can be gained by discussing it.

However, D would not be a great choice, for the simple reason that there is no comma before which. Apart from some very specific exceptions, which must always be preceded by a comma.
