Does anyone has any projections on what percentage of applicants were invited to interview for R1? What is the projected admissions percentage?

I recently interviewed off campus. Our TBD went well, and everyone in our team was quite participative and good. Just wondering what proportion of us would be invited for admission this year.

Was covered earlier but its about 40% interviewed and 40% accepted for about a 16% acceptance rate.

Yes saw that from the forum, but looking at Gmatclub numbers, only 24% applicants invited to interview, and also looking at no. of interview slots for R1, seems lesser as compared to last year. With Admissions Director leaving and Wharton's supposed slipping ranking, some people were anticipating that they will probably give out more admissions this year as yield might be low.

From the Wharton admissions blog apparently round 1 numbers this year are up considerably over last. We will have to wait a few months before exact figures get released but at least its a good sign that there does not seem to be any further downward movement from last year. Visiting Wharton and talking with students they have no doubt in their mind that they will continue strong and apparently have good leads on a new dean and admissions director to keep the school on track.

Also this has been mentioned on other school threads but the Gmatclub numbers are not that great to go by since it seems quite a few applicants don't update their status or wait till they get accepted then create accounts and register onto the forums which swings the % considerably. Just check out Stanford's invite to interview percentage (interviewed and invited to interview make up only 7% of round 1). MIT Sloan (18% invited to interview or interviewed).

These numbers are at about 60-70% what they should be, just like Wharton.

Wharton does a good job controlling yield through waitlisting candidates so I doubt they will increase the admit rate significantly, they will hand out acceptances accordingly then see how many acceptances and deposits they get come late February, in the mean time they have waitlists from round 1 to tap into and round 2 applicants to consider to fill out the class if the yield is lower than expected for their first batch of offers from round 1.

FROM Wharton Admissions Blog: Multicultural Diversity at Wharton
Salamu kutoka Wharton! (Swahili for ‘Greetings from Wharton’)

This past weekend the Wharton Africa Business Forum (WABF) held a sold out conference for over 400 participants.  Filled with Wharton students, alumni, and professionals who all participated in sharing their experiences living in or working in Africa, this conference highlights one of Wharton’s greatest assets; the diversity of the student body.

Diversity of culture, background and identity enriches the conversations and experiences of our students, inside and outside the classroom. Wharton’s robust student body is comprised of a myriad of diversities (citizenship, gender, racial, sexual orientation, socio-economic, etc.).  Interacting with a diverse set of classmates helps prepare Wharton students to become leaders across a multitude of different business environments, as the Wharton MBA experience is a microcosm of the global business community.

One of the most impressive elements of the community is its willingness to share in and learn about the different cultures that make up the student experience.  From participation in student culture and identity clubs (over 20 currently exist), to overwhelming participation in events like the Wharton International Culture Show, Wharton students are not hesitant to share elements of their cultural backgrounds with their classmates.

Over the years that I have worked at Wharton, I feel lucky that I have had a chance to help recruit students to our campus from a variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds.  I encourage you to get to know the vibrant and diverse community first hand, perhaps by attending one of our many upcoming student conferences: Whitney M Young Conference, Wharton MENA Conferenceor Wharton Latin America Conference(just to name a few).   However you choose engage with Wharton, I’m sure you too will be impressed by the diversity of thought found within.

thanks for the summary on the interviews - very helpful! did you guys present the "final" idea back to the moderators?

My group did. The presentation was actually quite spontaneous.

For a different perspective, my group finished with ~1 minute to spare and we were discussing how to present but the moderators told us it was fine not to (somewhat implying not to), since they were well aware of what we would be presenting since they obviously sat through the whole process...maybe they couldn't bear to hear us talk anymore but all kidding aside, they did say good job and seemed pleased with our conclusion so I am guessing actually verbally presenting your idea in a direct manner is not at all necessary

Im not sure how much weight these interviews can possibly have?? It seems like most interviews went great and everyone had a positive outcome. It was a very different experience compared to what I have had with other schools... the interview didnt seem as serious. I chatted to a friend who did interviews for Wharton and he says they use the interviews only if they are on the fence with your application....

I agree, I can't imagine that they eliminate many people just based on the interview (unlike other schools). From an interviewee perspective though, it was pretty fun to get to know the other candidates in a fun and relaxed setting.

I somewhat agree. But what you guys are saying is that there were plenty of people who walked into the team interview with no chance (correct?). I also think you could eliminate yourself from contention if you were a marginal applicant.

I'm not refuting this. But, after digging the previous year's threads, I observed a good rise in the number of applicants reporting to apply in R1. I observed this rise for W, Booth, K, and if I remember correctly, Sloan as well. So, that could be a factor.

Again, too many unknowns to say anything conclusively.

I somewhat agree. But what you guys are saying is that there were plenty of people who walked into the team interview with no chance (correct?). I also think you could eliminate yourself from contention if you were a marginal applicant. My team did well ultimately, but at the beginning, the first two people to present got nervous, rambled, and went over the 1 minute mark, and I don't mean by 5 seconds, probably between an extra 45 to 90 seconds on top of the original 60. I truly believe they both shot themselves in the foot for falling apart like that right at the get go and not being able to follow the only simple instructions we were given

To be honest, I won't be very surprised if that were the case. The TBD and iv might be to eliminate individuals with absolutely pathetic comm. skills/sense of the situation or select people who knock the iv out of the park. But, again, adcom has seen a lot of TBDs, unlike us. They might be looking for specific aspects that I'm (we are?) unaware of.

Don't worry too much about that. Remember that they must be really busy at this point. He/she probably hasn't checked his/her e-mail in a few days.

Honestly don't worry. Not getting a reply doesn't mean you did badly.

Yes, there are issues with self-reported data. People don't want to admit failure for one, two, those who get admitted often will register to jump into discussions, so you will have a somewhat positive/rosy statistics. Since those who got dinged don't advertise, and finally, as unbelievable as it sounds, there are still people out there who don't know what GMAT Club is ;-) and they sometimes find the site past the application deadlines.

FROM Wharton Admissions Blog: Wharton Spotlight: MasterChef

Earlier this month, the Wharton Inter Cultural Society(WICS) brought to life a new event that allowed the MBA community to showcase its cultural diversity by way of food. Wharton MasterChef took place on November 9th and attracted Wharton MBA students from 20+ countries around the world to create their favorite dishes.

The event was composed of 23 teams ranging from Asia, to the Middle East and down to South America. Each team brought their own uniqueness and spice to the table. In the judge’s circle, they had Wharton’s very own Deputy Vice Dean, Kembrel Jones, as well as two professional chefs from leading Philadelphia-based culinary schools.

You can read about Jake Gorelov’s (WG’15) first-hand experience at MasterChef in a piece he recently wrote for The Wharton Journal entitled “Eating My Way Around The World At MasterChef.”
