A recipe calls for 2/3 cup of butter to make a batch of cookies. How big is the batch?

A recipe calls for 2/3 cup of butter to make a batch of cookies. How big is the batch?
(1) If each of six people wanted to eat five cookies, 5/3 cup of butter would be needed. This means that 5/3 cup of butter would make 6*5=30 cookies. 5/3 cup is (5/3)/(2/3)=2.5 times as many cups as needed for one batch, thus one batch = 30/2.5 = 12 cookies. Sufficient.
(2) Three batches would require 2 cups of butter. If 2/3 cup of butter to make a batch of cookies, then obviously for 3 batches 3*2/3=2 cups of butter are needed. So, we new this ourselves from the stem. Useless info. Not sufficient.
Answer: A.

according to first condition 2/3+1 cup is required. Its clear from question that 2 cups are required for 3 batch. (2/3*3=2 cups), Which tells us that the batch is 1 + 1.5=2.5 big.
Hence the answer is A
