Funny & strange, I had 710 at the gmat with q48 and v40.

Good luck with your application, I've submitted mine last week and the only move I saw was a wild linkedin check from a New-York person. the wait is killing me.

took my gmat 4 years ago, probably got more competitive over the years. Good luck to you too!

We are a day away from the ED deadline and I am still unsure whether I should apply ED or RD.
My application is completely ready.

Can you guys share your experience about how you guys decided to apply for your preferred round?

I decided to apply ED for two reasons. Through a lot of research and visiting campus, CBS is my top choice. Since I have less than stellar stats but unique WE in healthcare/pharma I thought my application might stand out in the ED round. I know the ED advantage is debatable, but I thought it was worth it for me to commit to ED.

I did regular decision.

I love CBS but I hate to say money of course plays a part in my decision process. If in some wacky universe there is more $$$ with another school it may affect my decision. It was tough not to do ED though....as the CBS culture is absolutely amazing.

Thank you hubbl3 and csi

I too absolutely love the culture at Columbia and love that fact that its in NYC, but the moolah situation and the cosignee international student loan policy is just too large of a consideration for me to ignore.

I think the same! I'll go for the RD

I believe there is an alternative loan for international students that don't demand a US co-signer. Google Prodigy Finance. It's not a bargain loan and it's capped at tuition costs, but it's an alternative!

Just got the email, denied without interview.

ED applicant

Background:
750 GMAT (q48v46)
3.85 GPA (very respectable private school in US, economics & pre-med major)
2.5 years entrepreneurship experience (small but growing retail business) at matriculation
22 yrs old (nearly 23)

Submitted: 09/15
Decision: 10/07

Very disappointing as CBS was my best fit and has been my dream school for years (long-term goal is social entrepreneurship, which I've already taken steps toward). I suspect that I got rejected due to my young age/lack of experience, though I believe I clearly demonstrated maturity, potential, and innovation through my entrepreneurship. I also feel that I had a unique and compelling story, one that tied in perfectly with my goals and work experience, due to my rough upbringing, which also led to my substantial extracurricular experience (I founded an association, have countless volunteer hours, initiated several charitable events/philanthropic efforts, etc.)

Oh well, I knew this was a long shot anyway. I am not giving up, though. Not letting this dream die just yet and I will likely try again next year or the year after. Not sure what to do from here, however. What can I do to improve my candidacy? I'll develop my business and make it even bigger, but I doubt I can change that much in a year.

Don't underestimate the difference one extra year of work experience can make, especially at such an early stage of your career... by your test scores, GPA, and what I can glean from your self-description, I think all you need is one or two more years of experience, and you've got very strong odds of getting in not just at CBS, but any school.

It's also very likely you'll be better able to take advantage of the opportunities the school provides with a little more experience. I can't speak for you, but in my case, I'm sure I'll enjoy the experience a lot more now that I would have when I had 2 years of work experience.

Good luck!

I'm sorry to hear about your ding, but keep your head up. You're 22. When I was 22 I applied to a host of schools, not nearly as good as CBS, and guess what, I got dings across the board. Looking back, it's obvious. My experiences were weak, my essays were fluff and my maturity was not there. You have to keep in mind that experience is a HUGE factor and at 22 you simply can't have equivalent to the comp. set applying. On a side note, start volunteering if you haven't already. I think next year that will off-set what will be perceived as still a bit of weaker experiences.

If I were you, I would secure a phone call with the AdCom and try to learn why I was dinged. They could tell you when to reapply.

There is a few examples of people doing so: dinged, phone call, reapply, get admitted :)

I wish you the best luck in the world and I hope you will find sucess.

No, I'm applying for ED. It makes sense to answer J term first. Can you tell me a bit about your background?
