@itsmedavidv- I think you are up to something here. Here are my answers to your questions:

1 - Is this your 1st year applying? Y
2 - Do you live outside the bay area? N
3 - Level of 1-5 (1 least, 5 too much) - How engaged have you been with AdCom? I'd say 5, since i attended a lot of the information sessions before applying, also did a class visit etc. But havent heard anything from them after my interview. My quant status says complete online but I didnt get an email.

contessa922
1. Sort of. I applied to the FTMBA program last year, this is my first time applying to EWMBA

2. Nope, I live in the Bay Area

3. 1, My only interaction with Advom has been for my interview back in early April.

Hope that helps!

So here is my theory: contessa922 HeartHaas

1st - I think they are contacting people out side of the Bay Area, who will most likely be accepted, and want to provide them with guidance; court them if you will.

2nd - I think they are contacting applicants who are strong candidates and will most likely be accepted but perhaps feel do not have a lot of knowledge of the school, campus, etc due to the limited interaction with EWMBA program/information, etc.

Any thoughts?

Interesting take - may be they are looking at the interest levels of candidates more likely to be admitted, so that they don't give out admits that wont be accepted.
Is that a possibility? :)

Yes, it is certainly plausible. From past years' threads, I'd like to add that folks who asked questions during the interview that AdCom wasn't able to answer at the time, also had students contact them as well.

Some more thoughts:

1. The facebook group for EWMBA class of 2018 currently has 151 members. A quick review of the members seem to indicate a handful (20-25) of AdCom and current students. Assuming some of those admitted don't have a facebook account or have not yet joined that group, and also assuming that AdCom tries to admit roughly the same number of admits each round (R3+R4 is considered one round), we have 240/3 = 80, which means that roughly 160 admits have been handed out till now.

2. USnews full compass account has the updated statistics for the EWMBA class of 2017. According to them, there were 680 applications, 293 were admitted, out of which 253 accepted and are currently enrolled. If we can expect similar numbers this year, then AdCom should hand out at least 80-100 admits tomorrow. This brings the number from 160 to 260 total admits. If ~30 admitted will enroll somewhere else, they will keep ~40 or ~50 in waitlist and admit 30 more by july end.

3. The Haas website for last year's class profile lists only the median gmat score, which is 700. USnews also lists the average gmat score, which is 692. AdCom won't let the gmat stats go down compared to last year's stats, so we can expect at least 130 admitted students to have gmat of 700+. So depending on how the first two rounds went, this could be a key factor for R3, R4 admits.

Great point - One addition, here is the link with the GMAT 80% range for 2017 class. https://ewmba.haas.berkeley.edu/community/students/classprofile.html

Excellent analysis. I guess we can all speculate, but we find out the validity of all of our theories tomorrow.

It's going to be soooo difficult to work tomorrow.

I noticed that quite a few folks are applying both to Anderson FEMBA and Haas EWMBA. Just curious, are most of you in Socal, or the Bay Area, or somewhere else altogether?

Absolutely. For a lot of us, tomorrow is the culmination of a year long process, whether it ends in tears of joy or sorrow. For a few, the agony of waiting could be prolonged for a couple more months. I won't be able to sleep tonight. Grateful for a brief distraction today evening, Go Warriors!

I am in the Bay Area, planning on Flex if Anderson FEMBA ends up being the decision.
