A dance show will include exactly five pieces: Requiem, Smooth Step, Trampoline, Unleashed, and Waltzy. Requiem will be presented immediately before Smooth Step. Unleashed will be presented earlier than Trampoline, with at least one piece in between. Waltzy will not be the final piece presented.

In the table, select a piece that cannot be the second piece presented and a piece that cannot be the third piece presented. Make only two selections, one in each column.

There are five possible orders. As mentioned before, RS is a block, and you must have U_T. Start with RS in the first two spots: 1. RS_ _ _. It must be UWT (RSUWT) 2. _ RS _ _. U has to come first, and WT at the end (URSWT) 3. _ _ RS _. T must come at the end, and UW is possible at the front (UWRST) 4. _ _ RS _. Same as above, but U and W can be swapped (WURST) 5. _ _ _ RS. If you have time, these kinds of questions are very similar to the logical reasoning questions on the lsat. There is a book called "Logical Reasoning Bible" which will teach you how to do these problems very easily. I'll explain the techniques used in the book on this problem.

You have 5 choices R,S,T,U,W

so draw 5 places

Now the prompt says the R comes immediately before S so that is a block. It also says U comes before T with at least one space in between. Finally, W cannot be last.

RS < draw a square around this to show it is a block
U_T < draw this in a way that represents there is AT LEAST one space between the 2 and put a square around it since it is also a kind of block
_ _ _ _ _ _ < this shows that W cannot be last

(*s are just empty space, you don't need to draw them)

Now you can see the block RS must slide between the 5, making S impossible for the first and R for the last. You can draw a slash in the 1st & 2nd spots for S and R if you want, or just remember it. Also, U and T cannot be last/2nd to last or first/2nd, respectively. Now you have 2 answers for what can't be 2nd (U and S).

As far as the 3rd, if you play around with the variables you'll see that W cannot be center because it block U_T and RS. (If you put RS first then W, U and T will not have a space).

If Waltzy is in the middle RS is either to the left or right of Waltzy
So in that case UT will be together which cannot happen so Waltz cannot be in the middle

the 2 possible arrangements are:
1. U-W-T-R-SS
2. R-SS-U-W-T

Bunuel  - Please help me solve the 2nd part of the Question. Person who cannot sit in 3rd position. 
Why is this arrangement not possible? 
UPWRST - W can come in the 3rd position while i satisfy both constriants . {R,S}together and U --T (atleast one person between them and W not in last position

Trampoline cannot be 2nd. The rule {Unleashed, ..., Trampoline} requires Unleashed to be earlier with at least one piece in between, which is impossible if Trampoline is in position 2.

Waltzy cannot be 3rd. If Waltzy is 3rd, then {Requiem, Smooth Step} must be 1-2 or 4-5. Neither placement leaves open slots that can satisfy {Unleashed, ..., Trampoline} with the required separation.
