The restaurant operating at a peak period for the business is also a positive for its sales. I.e This fact should enhance the sale.
And, on the contrary if the restaurant is now more affordable that means that per ticket value for the business might suffer a bit.
Any comments?

This is low quality question and should be skipped.

It could well be possible that "affordable" items were cheaper than previous menu so sales didn't increase significantly so B is also not the right choice if you have this understanding

You are right. This question is indeed not good as written. The OA, B, saying that the menu was made more budget-focused can also be a driver for the reduced sales (e.g. if the menu was 10% off, and there are 10% more customers, you are not even breaking even).

I will have to tweak it and make it more about attracting new customers rather than sales. Also, the way the question was asked was kind of awkward, so I have revised it to be a bit more manageable.

Thank you for helping catch this logical issue in the "B"
I have provided you with 2 weeks of GMAT Club tests as a part of the bug bounty program

I took this in an exam and marked the ans B instead of D. Rationale was something could be 10K and now priced at 5K - so it could be affordable but not entirely
D would not explain - if they kicked off when sales are generally high - they should have been able to get more sales or at-least part of it - how does an industry trend explain anything regarding the individual player. Bunuel - I see the question was revised please help

I don’t quite agree with the solution. Option Does it give a "reason" for failure? GMAT Status
A Yes (Rude staff remained) Incorrect (It explains)
B Yes (Price drop wasn't enough/known) Incorrect (It explains)
C Yes (No one knows about changes) Incorrect (It explains)
E Yes (Competition stole them) Incorrect (It explains)
D No (It's a reason they should have succeeded) Correct (Does NOT explain)

Hi,
For B) I think its a bit of a stretch to say that price drop wasnt enough so it explains. As long as there was a price drop, it should have ideally led to increase in new customers because that was cited as one of the issues.

D) can help explain the lack of increase because it affects how the outcome is interpreted. If the new owners took over during a period when sales are typically at their peak, then what appears to be no increase in new customers may simply reflect seasonality rather than continued problems with the restaurant.

Hope this helps!
