Any idea if they call guys in Asia on the same day (10th, due to time zone differences) or one day before (same as everyone else)?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Judging from last years posts, they call foreign admits the day before as well. It is said that they call countries to the East of US earlier during the day.

FROM The Booth Experience: Booth Soccer World
Crack! I can still hear the sound my knee made when my body turned to hit the soccer ball, while my left cleat remained firmly attached to the ground. Crack! I fell on the green turf, and even though I felt no pain then and there, I knew something was wrong.

It has been nine long months since I tore my ACL. Nine months that included having surgery in a foreign country, walking with crutches in the snow, and enduring painful physical therapy sessions. Nine months during which I was not able to play soccer, and had no other choice except to contribute from beyond the white sidelines as a coach.

Each quarter, the Booth Soccer Club participates in a soccer tournament competing against the top MBA schools across the country. We usually fly two teams to Los Angeles, Austin and Hanover, to play seven games during one intense weekend. These tournaments have been my greatest experiences at school, so far. Not only because of the positive achievements on the field, but also because of the fun we have off the field. Many strong friendships were forged playing side-by-side with my band of brothers, and many more sharing a drink or two after the games. During these weekends this tight-knit soccer community becomes even closer, and the moments we share will remain forever etched in our memories.

This year we had the difficult job of keeping the Booth Soccer Team on top, after winning two of the three MBA tournaments last year. Many great players graduated before the summer, and naturally left the team, and now a new batch of up-and-coming first year students have the responsibility of filling that gap.

We arrived to a warm UCLA campus with high hopes, but knowing it was going to be a very tough tournament. After winning every consecutive game (including an 8-0 against our northern neighbors), we reached the final game against the UCLA Alumni team. It was a very, very tight match, and our players were exhausted after a very competitive weekend. That game finished 3-3 and unfortunately we lost the Finals in a penalty shootout…

We are now looking forward to taking our revenge at the UT McCombs tournament next quarter. Needless to say, I am personally very excited about this tournament, as it will be time for me to put my cleats back on, and cross the white sidelines, back to the field, where I belong.

While the Thanksgiving mood is still in the air — I am very thankful for all of my friends and my mother who helped me out through the recovery period: buying my groceries, taking notes in class or simply by cheering me up.

FROM The Booth Experience: How Boothies Spend Thanksgiving Break
Thanksgiving is a time to relax, eat way too much food, and enjoy some time off before the last week of classes for the winter quarter. I personally spent my Thanksgiving break at home in DC with my family, and while going home may be the norm, it’s by no means the only way Boothies spend Thanksgiving.

For those students who stick around in Chicago, the Graduate Business Council (GBC) hosts an annual International Students Thanksgiving dinner for 70 students at a Chicago restaurant on Thanksgiving-eve. Some of the more adventurous students chose to take a vacation – for example, second-year student Pallav Mehta organized a trip with five Boothies to Puerto Rico for some sun and sand over the long weekend (including great dinners, beaches, old San Juan and a trip to the bio luminescent bay). Other students spent the weekend with classmates. Last year, current second-year Marta Valer, who couldn’t make it to her hometown of Zaragoza, Spain, went home with friend and classmate KR Ling. It was a typical Thanksgiving – well, for the most part…

“All I knew about Thanksgiving before coming to Booth is what I learned watching Friends. It looked fun – meet with family and friends, start having dinner at 4pm (which in Spain is typically just a late lunch) and eat lots of turkey, something with cranberries, and my favorite – lots of pies. Last year, my friend KR invited me to spend the holidays with her family in New Jersey and I immediately said yes. But all those movies and shows hadn’t really prepared me for the real thing.

First of all, the excitement on the day before: everyone taking their suitcases to class and sharing Ubers to the airport. Unfortunately, when we got to O’hare; delayed flights and cancellations everywhere. Luckily, many other Boothies were in the same boat, which made the wait much better. Especially when one got the whole group into the VIP Lounge!

When we arrived in New Jersey, KR’s dad picked us up at the airport and drove us to the Ling’s headquarters, where we had a late dinner of steak and some pies (the fun started). I wouldn’t have eaten that dinner had I known what was coming the next day. Actually, I would’ve stopped eating a week before had I known better.

On Thursday morning we started cooking and baking. I baked my first chocolate pie, and it was a great first time baking experience. Each member of the family baked one or two pies, so there was no pressure on my pie being edible; worst case we would just throw it away and eat the remaining eight pies.

We started dinner at 4pm and after three hours of eating, we rolled to the couch to watch some football and movies. I passed out on minute one – with the Ling’s dog sleeping on top of me – and woke up to the smell of pies. Time for dessert! And that’s how my friend KR does Thanksgiving.

But it wasn’t all about food. During the holidays I also got to do some Black Friday shopping (although I was already an expert on that) and we saw some  New Jersey buildings and churches built  200 years ago, which is considered old in the US. A very different perspective coming from my hometown, which had been built by the Romans.

Food comas aside, I very much enjoyed my first American Thanksgiving and see it now as a great time where you go back home, meet old friends from childhood, watch videos of your performance in a kindergarten play, and spend some quality time with family. I’m also super excited to re-visit those memories by going back to New Jersey for my second American Thanksgiving. This year I’m challenging myself with the adventure of baking my first pumpkin pie and couldn’t be happier to spend the holidays over at the Ling’s. Overall, an awesome tradition that I encourage all non-American students to try out next year!”

How would you chose to spend your first Booth Thanksgiving?

So yeah, last years indicate that all of the calls were made the day before deadline - basically, everyone who did not receive a call the day before were dinged / waitlisted.

For international applicants, correct?

For everyone as far as I know. They also called US applicants the day before as well.

I went through some older "Calling All Booth Applicants" threads and making the acceptance calls a day before the decision deadline seems to be a longstanding tradition at Booth. Or at least people in the Class of 2016 thread were mentioning that the school has called people the day before the deadline for the two years prior, which pushes this practice back to at least the class of 2014.

I don't know about you guys, but that's a big enough sample size for me to be incredibly anxious for tomorrow. Best of luck everyone.

I wish I didn't know this information. I wish I had the mentality that I would find out Thursday so I wouldn't be looking out all day for a call tomorrow UGH. Ignorance is bliss time to get off these forums.

I sucked at my interview too. Still, what's done is done. Tried to think about other options and Round 2 (if needed).
Hold slim hope for Booth now.

Same here.
I made some stupid mistakes as well, not about the interview itself though. Let alone no chemistry with interviewer.
Based on my sub-standard interview performance and not-so-competitive background package, I have only slim hope, even Booth is my top1 dream school.
I think 15% possibilities I will get admitted, 45% WL, 40% denied.

Oh kill me, I overthink it too much.

I am with you somehow! I feel I was well prepared for the interview, so I don't think I screwed it. But I did feel no chemistry with the interviewer. He kept looking at the clock throughout the whole process, which made me very nervous.
But to be honest, I would rather to have a direct ding instead of a waitlist. I am a reapplicant, and the waitlist process was so painful for me in the past year. I did tons of work to support my candidacy during the waitlist period, which was even more than what I did in the original application. Apparently it did not work so I'm here again. As many people told me, once getting into the waitlist, it is hard to get off. Really hope it won't happen to me again this year.

I was asked to comment on a Republican presidential candidate's tax plan. That question related in no way to my personal interests, interests as a future student, or my current or past employment. Politics and religion should be off-limits in my mind during these interviews. It completely threw me off because people have such strong feelings and allegiances on this topic. I was asked to comment on something that I was not intimately familiar with while also trying to remain objective and nuanced so as not to offend. The whole interview devolved from there. My hopes have been dashed.

Oh wow! Sorry to hear that your interview didn't go well. Just out of curiosity, did you interview on campus with a second year or off campus with alumni?

I suppose your interview was off-campus with alumni, because on-campus interview with AO or current students is very standardized. I heard of several examples (not booth) evolved with politics, pretty awkward. And the interviewees complained the situation to the school afterwards.
Sensitive topics like Politics is definitely the thing should not be asked in the interview.
