Hello all,

I took my PTE yesterday, and despite having a 82/90 in Listening, 83/90 in Reading and 86/90 in Writing, I got a very disappointing 55/90 in Speaking. This gave me an overall score of 74, while HBS, for example, requires a 75.

I am from Brazil, but having lived and worked in the US, I am pretty sure this does not reflect the reality. Does anyone know how and what is taken into account when calculating speaking scores? Has anyone had the same experience?

Is re-scoring advisable? Or should I go ahead and take the TOEFL, which I have scheduled for next weekend?

Thanks!

As you have lived in USA, your speaking and fluency must not be the issue. This leaves us with following as possible issues:

1) Whether you were loud enough,
2) Whether your voice was clear enough,
3) Whether there was any noise present, specially of your breathing,
4) Whether you were taking too much pause in between a sentence.
