z>2567

hundreds digit can be > or = 5. Not sufficient

What is the hundreds digit of the integer Z?

1. 10z > 25,670

2. z rounded to the nearest hundred is 2,600

1) 10z > 25,670
=> z > 2,567
Hundred's digit could be 5,6,7,....
Insufficient.

2) z rounded to the nearest 100 is 2600
z = 2,599 => rounded up is 2600
z = 2,601 => rounded down is 2600
Insufficient.

1+2)
Hundred's digit could be 5 or 6.
Insufficient.
Answer is E.

What is the hundreds digit of the integer Z?

1. 10z > 25,670

2. z rounded to the nearest hundred is 2,600

We need to determine the hundreds digit of integer z.

Statement One Alone:

10z > 25,670

Simplifying the inequality, we have z > 2567. Since z could be 2568, with a hundreds digit of 5, or 2700, with a hundreds digit of 7, statement one alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

Statement Two Alone:

z rounded to the nearest hundred is 2,600.

Since z could equal 2610, with a hundreds digit of 6, or 2598, with a hundreds digit of 5, statement two alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

Statements One and Two Together:

Using statements one and two, we still cannot answer the question, since z could equal 2610, with a hundreds digit of 6, or 2598, with a hundreds digit of 5.

Answer: E
