Hi Jessie (@jessiex),

thank you for sharing your profile.

I see a lot of potential in it. I particularly like the "740 GMAT Score + International Experience" combo in your profile. However, more detail in your 4 years of work experience would be needed in order to more accurately assess your chances. Feel free to share your resume with me ([email protected]).

To your concerns:

1. Leadership experience. I wouldn't be too concerned about this. Leadership comes in many forms and people management is just one of them. Schools like INSEAD do not expect all applicants to have proven people management experience. For them, what's more important is to see leadership potential in the applicant's profile. For INSEAD specifically, leadership potential is even one of their 4 admissions criteria. There are many ways to show leadership potential and a rapid ascending career progression is one of them. In your case, moving from a technical position as programmer/analyst to a more sales-oriented position could be considered valuable career progression. As a matter of fact, immediately pre-INSEAD, I also transitioned from a technical to a sales-oriented role.

2. Undergrad school. This is something I can also relate to. I studied telecom engineering in Spain from a university no one really knows about outside of my region (Catalonia). But in Spain, this is quite common as education is public and quite standardized across the country so, in engineering at least, there are no really "Ivy"-type universities. So, b-schools like INSEAD are very aware of this. Therefore, in many cases, the brand of your undergraduate school is not used as an indication of your academic capacity. Instead, GPA and, most importantly, GMAT score are better indicators. In your case, yours are both outstanding.

Again, taking a look at your resume would really help to assess more accurately your chances, but in principle, with a strong application, I would say you have good chances at all your target schools, especially, the European ones.

I hope this helps.

Thank you very much.

Warm regards
Alex

Hi shameekv1989,

Many Indian students dream about getting into INSEAD but often their challenge is lack of international experience.

It is good to see that you have worked across 3 continents and obtained unique experience in Bulgaria as well as Poland :)
INSEAD really values diverse and global experience, so you are good there.

Your GMAT and rest of the academics also look fine. Your work experience in the automotive industry also seem interesting and different from many other engineers in your competitive pool. Your extracurriculars are also varied and interesting - and I can see many interesting stories there that you can use for your essays. So all good till here.

However, what concerns me a little bit are your career goals, esp your Plan A.
MBA offers a great transformational opportunity to make a career switch or help advance your corporate career. But if you want to be better entrepreneur, I'm not sure if MBA is indeed the right next step for you. You might be better off taking a few online/ executive-level courses and invest your tuition fee right into your business venture? But if you are unsure about your post-MBA path and equally inclined to pursue consulting in the automotive space, then get some more clarity and go for it! :)

Good luck with your decision!

Hello,

I wanted to share my profile and get a realistic review.

Background: Male: 31 years old, Indian residing in Poland

Education: Btech in Electronics and Telecommunication from the University of Pune (not so renowned college) with distinction (>67%) through-out.

Work experience: 9+ years in the Automotive industry (worked with 3 multi-national companies) testing various products related to Safety, and quality. Have worked in 3 continents India (the majority of the time), US (1.5 yrs), and Bulgaria, EU (~1.5 months). I led a team of close to 10 engineers and helped set up a team in the US during my time.
Quit my job last year and relocated to Poland with my wife who has been working here for the past 3 years. This relocation gave me time for some self-reflection and eventually I decided to start my own start-up which is pretty much on the same lines as my career i.e. providing test solutions and services to automotive industries. Have been working on this for close to 7 months now and very recently founded the company with few other co-founders.

Extracurricular activities:- Jack of all trades, master of none. I have been heavily involved in various sports such as Football, Cricket, Table Tennis, Snooker, Volleyball, Basketball in college as well as in my whole career. Have captained and represented teams in various events that have taken place.

GMAT: 720 (Q50, V38, IR2, AWA 5) -> I received IR 8 in my last 2 attempts. So planning to leverage that in the additional component of the essay (Would that be a good plan? Would college consider it?)

Schools: LBS, INSEAD, Judge, HEC, Said, IESE --> in that order

Goal of MBA:
Plan A- To get a good grasp on Entrepreneurship and go on and become a serial entrepreneur.
Plan B- To get a good consulting job for an Automotive client

Why MBA: Having worked for 9 years in corporate industry and an year in my own start-up, I feel I have a knack for Entrepreneurship though there are various gaps in my knowledge to reach my goals such as the various strategies that can be applied to a problem set, how to grasp hold of customers, Negotation skills etc. I believe an MBA could help me fill these gaps and make me a better entrepreneur who can look at a problem from various angles.

Why in Eu :- First off, European schools have a diversity of >90% international students. One of the most important selection criteria for me. Secondly, given my age, I feel a short program (1-1.5 yrs) is best for my needs. Having worked in various roles, I have a feel for the hard-work that the intense course of 1 year needs. Moreover, having worked in US and India, I find European work culture the best. My wife has been working here for quite sometime as well. So all in all Eu suits best for me.

LORs:-
Have a primary LOR from my manager during my time in the US.
Looking to get one more LOR from my very recent manager.

Let me know if any other information is needed.

Hi,

Would really appreciate a profile evaluation folks.

Male - Pakistan, 29. Will be 30 by the time I start the program next Fall.

BBA, 3rd Ranked B-School in the country GPA 3.3/4
MBA, From a Top 2 business school in the country, GPA 3.06/4
GMAT - 750
CFA Level 1 and 2 passed.
I am hoping my GMAT and CFA Level 1 and 2 can compensate for the lower GPA?
Extra Curr: Have been President of various societies in university, and involved in a lot of charity work as well. Also have been the founding member of official supporters club of an England based football team in Pakistan. Years of handwork and pure dedication have gone into it, and the community is still running strong.

WE: 5 years by Fall 21 (All in Pakistan). I know INSEAD loves international experience, and I am at a major disadvantage here, but I've travelled to 7 countries and have also worked with clients based in the US and Europe during my work experience. Also, in my current role I am looking at portfolio for US based clients. So, I hope this can compensate some bit if not fully?

16 months with a Digital Media Start Up. Started off as a Marketing Analyst, and got a promotion within 6 months.
Associate Markets & Deals, 9 months with a Fortune 500
Financial Sales Analyst, US based Forbes Cloud 100 company. 7 months.
15 months at a gaming start up. Here I was responsible for scaling the product and the entire strategy formulation.
Currently working as an Account Manager for a US based Insurance Company in their Pakistan office. Just started 2 months ago.

My biggest concern is the hopping I did in my 2nd and 3rd job (9+7 months) and if it would come back to haunt me? I blame my ambitious self for it, since I really felt I couldn't grow in those roles, and switched jobs frequently. I would also be willing to wait another year and start in Fall 2022 instead if my job consistency would be a problem for the adcoms.

Reasons for doing a 2nd MBA are simple. The Pakistan MBA experience happened when I was too young. Most of what I learned in class was pure theory that I couldn't connect with, as there was no work experience to set the context. Students, especially in Pakistan jump on the MBA bandwagon right after completing their undergraduate degree, and I did the same. It is also very common for universities to select students for their MBA program with no prior work experience.

Secondly, and most importantly, while I have worked in international firms in Pakistan, my aspirations are no longer limited to Pakistan only. The 2-year Pakistan MBA degree hasn't helped in taking the leap into the international arena. Hence, an MBA from a top global B-school would be passport to a truly global career.

Post MBA goal is to get into Tech or Management Consulting ideally in London or Dubai.

Will really appreciate honest feedback. Thanks in advance!

Hi nust2017

I am an admission consultant from India and several of my students have gotten into INSEAD and LBS.

I like your profile for INSEAD :) and LBS (I see you've posted in the LBS thread too)

Your academics are good... GMAT of 750 places you in a sweet spot for admission and is also good for your post-MBA Consulting career goal.

Your work experience also seems interesting and varied. I fully understand your concern about the lack of international experience and many students from India also face a similar challenge. But the fact that you have worked with clients in the US and Europe and you have travelled a few times outside of Pakistan would definitely help your case.
You can use these experiences to build stories and answers in the essays to demonstrate your global mindset and ability to work with cross-cultural teams.

Also, IF you can explain authentically and logically your reasons for moving from one job to another, then I wouldn't worry too much about job hopping. :) The admission teams are aware of various reasons why some professionals change job more frequently than others. You just have to address it and show your reasons for it.

The 2nd MBA also seems fine. Many students from India also obtain first MBA degree early in their career and this degree is usually not internationally focused. Therefore, many of my students have gone for 2nd MBA in the US after completing their PGDMs from India.

So on paper your profile looks good, your challenge now would be to write strong compelling essays and ensure your letters of recommendation support your candidature.

Hello,

This is my first time posting so just looking for some solid feedback

Background - American. Studied accounting at a state university while working full time (for the most part) 3.6 GPA

Work - Spent 2 years doing financial analytics for a rapidly expanding tech company. I worked a lot with their EU and APAC headquarters and led product implementation as well as process improvement projects. Now doing Advanced Analytics/internal consulting for a large healthcare provider (2 billion in revenue per year) been doing that for around 2 years as well. I lead teams of a few analysts on various projects and have recently been responsible for many COVID-19 initiatives. I manage a weekly report that visualizes revenue for the entire organization and work closely with C level to analyze metrics. Essentially I'm a project manager, analyst, and advisor for the clinical groups in the hospital.

Why MBA? - I think that an MBA would be a great career accelerator. I also want to build a strong international network. Globalization is only going to increase in the future and INSEAD is such a global program. I'd like to consult on a larger scale to avoid my expertise lying solely in Healthcare. MBB would be my ultimate goal (in Europe or the USA). I've also already lived in France and would love to return with my wife.

GMAT 700

Extra-curricular activities: Athlete throughout high school where I was captain of the baseball and basketball team. I also played baseball for my first year of university. 2 year LDS mission to Paris, France (So my second language is French). Member of the French club at university. Volunteer baseball coach for local all star team. I also run, cycle, and play various other sports in my free time.

Hi jolive,

thank you for your post.

I like what I see, and looks like you have a well-rounded profile.

May I just quickly ask you a few questions?

1. Are those ~4 years of work experience all post-graduation? I'm asking because you mentioned you worked full-time during college.

2. For the GMAT, what's your Q/V/IR split? How many times have you attempted the test?

3. How long ago were you on your 2-year LDS mission to Paris?

4. What's your fluency level in French?

5. Besides the French stint, do you have any other international experience? For example, international business trips?

6. I guess MBB would be your immediate post-MBA goal, right? What about your long-term goal?

Feel free to continue this conversation offline via PM or email ([email protected]). Also, it would be great if you could share your resume with me for a more detailed assessment.

Thank you very much.

Warm regards

Background: Indian Male, 28 years old

GMAT: 700(Q50, V35) IR: 6
Work Ex: 52 months(and counting)
B.Tech CGPA: 3.3
PGDM(Sales & Marketing) CGPA: 2.8

For the applications I am planning to focus primarily on my work experience, which is completely in managerial roles across different companies, and functions. I worked for a one and half year stint at Saint-Gobain from where I am planning to get strong LORs. All three companies I've worked for are MNCs, and there is progress in the roles I have handled. Didn't get an opportunity to work outside India, but handled vendors from multiple locations(Germany, China). The company I am working for currently is a Joint Venture between an Italian MNC and a major Indian Player(3 year old JV, so it's like a well funded startup). The work profile is different from the average Indian IT applicant, and the entire work profile is related to different industries in the retail B2B and B2C segments. I am hoping that having a prior MBA should also put me at a slight advantage over other candidates. School marks are great, 90%+ in CBSE, but I don't think that matters much. How good are my chances?

Hi nust2017,

Your overall profile looks quite good and there is a high probability of your acceptance in one of the top B-schools.
You also have a good GPA score in your undergraduate degree and though your GPA score during your MBA program might have suffered a little dip, you can still compensate for it through your excellent GMAT score of 750 which is compatible with the MBA program you want to pursue. Additionally, you have also mentioned that you belong from the top tier colleges in your country which basically showcase your academic prowess and add another feather to your cap.

Looking at your work profile, you are definitely at an advantage as you have already gained five years of work experience which gives your profile a polished look. However, one minor drawback is that you are not associated with many big brands but you can compensate for it by justifying the kind of projects you have worked on for the past five years, why you chose these smaller-scale companies, and the kind of growth that you witnessed.
Moreover, you have also talked about your concerns wherein you switched from two consecutive jobs within a period of 16 months, which you can justify by talking about how you wanted to gain exposure in several companies as you were chasing learning. Connecting the dots and providing apt reasons for each action is key to presenting a flawless profile.

You have also presented your doubts about whether you should go for the fall 2021 or 2022 batch. In my view, you most certainly should target fall 2021 as you have got all the prerequisites for a good profile including a solid GMAT score. So, no need to wait another year, as the concern around your switching jobs doesn't really matter as long as you have adequate overall work experience.

Furthermore, you have also mentioned that you don't particularly have any international experience but you have worked with clients who are based in the US and Europe which definitely works in your favor. INSEAD surely looks for an international experience in their shortlisting but you can still mold this to suit in your favor by talking about how communicating and interacting with the international clients has not only aided in your communication and networking skills but has also erupted a desire in you to explore and familiarize yourself with different cultures and backgrounds.

Here, you have also talked about how you held leadership positions in your extracurricular activities through college societies, and other philanthropist works. You can further enhance your profile by writing about the impact you created, major takeaways, and the exposure you gained from these experiences which will definitely give your profile an edge paired with a holistic view.

Most significantly, you have mentioned your desire to study in INSEAD which is doable in your case. INSEAD surely falls under the dream category and give your profile, you can expect a 50% chance of winning an admit. Though I’d suggest that when you are targeting masters abroad, you should always consider applying for a mix of dream and competitive school to hedge your bets wisely. More importantly, you should target top schools of each of the countries which will later prove beneficial for you in terms of quality job opportunities.

In the dream category, you can go for- HEC(PARIS), INSEAD, LBS(UK), and IMPERIAL.
In the competitive category, you can go for- ESSEC, ESCP, ESADE, FSFM, WHU, IE

To sum up, while you have a pretty impressive profile, you will be competing against applicants who have similarly competitive or even better profiles. That said, your application, which holds 30% of weightage on your chances of acceptance, would help you stand out from the crowd.

Hey jolive,

You have a strong educational background that reflects your academic prowess and capabilities. Given your core interest in finance, majoring in Accounting reflects your passion to build a strong foundation in finance. Although you haven’t mentioned which state university you attended, it must be noted that school Ranking does play a part in the admission process and you’d be facing competition by applicants from Yale, Harvard, Oxford and other elite schools. Hence, I would recommend you to craft a strong application by highlighting your extracurricular and academic achievements to establish yourself as a strong candidate.

Speaking of your work experience, you have relevant work experience of four years which brings you to par with your competition. Here I would suggest you to talk about the quality of your work, the positive impact you created, and how you went above and beyond and bloomed in the role. You have led several projects and worked in several roles, hence talking about major achievements, impacts and learnings from those roles would definitely strengthen your profile. A small drawback in your profile would be the lack of huge brand names, but nevertheless you can make up for it by drawing attention to the growth you’ve witnessed all along these years.

You have undertaken decent extracurricular as well. Your volunteering activities, sports, and LDS missions display your analytical skills and how you have a proactive approach towards your education and career. Moreover, you have two years of international experience which further strengthens your profile by highlighting your broadened perspective and ability to adapt and succeed in foreign environments.

Your GMAT score of 700 is quite impressive as well and opens the door for you to target most of the top business schools across the globe.

Given your school choice, INSEAD comes under the dream category which means that it has an acceptance rate of 8-15%. Due to its stringent admission rates, I’d advise you to use a better strategy of applying to a mixed bunch of schools from Dream, Competitive and safe categories.

In the dream category, You can target schools such as Michigan Ross, Duke, McDonough, HEC, ESSEC etc

In the competitive category, You can target schools such as UCLA, NYU, WHU, Vanderbilt, Grenoble etc.

In the safe category, You can target schools such as Kedge,, EDHEC, Neoma Business School etc.

Reflecting on your decent profile, you can target all of those schools. However, I would suggest you to apply in the first round of applications as it would drastically increase your chances of acceptance into the program. Further, your decent profile, when complemented with a strong application that highlights your strengths and focuses on your academic and professional journey, will rightly help convey your fit for the school, thereby increasing your chances of acceptance.

As the first round of applications is just around the corner, you might be in a time crunch and must be looking forward to professional help to aid you in strategizing the right course of action for your application. Hence, I would suggest you to book a FREE Consultation Call with one of our consultants through the link given below. We have successfully had 27 admits to HEC, 6 to INSEAD, and 13 to Imperial this year and helped countless other applicants in their journey to their dream schools. We’d be happy to help you too :)

Hi srishti246,

Your profile looks quite good and promising with a perfect balance between your academic and professional proficiency.

To begin with, your GPA of 3.64 and GMAT score of 720 are quite impressive which shows your academic prowess. Furthermore, you have mentioned that you also got an off-line professional certification in Leadership, management, and liberal arts which again works in your favor since it gives your academic profile an extra edge and showcases the extent of your proactive nature.

Moreover, you can showcase your strong academic front and a holistically developed profile by highlighting your extracurricular participation since you were involved in a plethora of diverse activities where you went above and beyond to create an impact through your leadership roles and other social and volunteering works. Here you can basically talk about your major takeaways and the kind of value you were able to add back to each of these initiatives.

Most significantly, your work experience is surely remarkable as you’ve own around 4 years of work experience from five different companies among which you have two big brands like EY and KPMG under your profile. This definitely sets you at par with your competitors yet you can still further differentiate yourself from others by talking about the kind of projects you undertook, the impacts you created, and what you learned from these experiences. Further, you have also mentioned briefly about your current work experience at EY where you are handling international clients which again works in your favor especially since most of the top B-schools are impressed with the adaptability and broadened perspective that such a candidate can bring along.

Speaking of the weaknesses in your profile, the only minor drawback that is noticeable in your profile is your undergraduate college which though has a pretty decent ranking in the University of Delhi, but when it comes to the selection criteria, these top B-schools always prefer to select candidates that have graduated from the top 10 schools the country.

All in all, you have an all-rounder profile and with a GMAT score of 720, you can target most of the Top B-schools worldwide. You also need to apply as early as possible as there is a high possibility of your acceptance in these top-notch universities. That said, I would advise you to hedge your bets wisely and target a good mix of dream, competitive and safe schools.

When it comes to the dream category schools, you can apply for- HEC, LBS, OXFORD, CAMBRIDGE, IMPERIAL.
When it comes to the Competitive category schools, you can apply for- ESSEC, ESCP, ESADE, WHU, MANHEIM
When it comes to the safe category schools, you can apply for- CASS, UCL, SKEMA, GRENOBLE.

To sum up, while you have a pretty impressive profile, you will be competing against applicants who have similarly competitive or even better profiles. That said, your application, which holds 30% of weightage on your chances of acceptance, would help you stand out from the crowd.

Thus, if you’re looking for expert counseling sessions and services in the form of an in-depth consultation and suggestions on how to upgrade your application through our multiple services in the form of editing, proofreading, and enhancement of your application which consist of your Essay, SOP, LOR and resume, you can Book a free Call with one of our consultants to chalk out a winning strategy that could help boost your chances of acceptance by a minimum of 3X!

Hi all,
I would appreciate an honest opinion about my career profile and suitability for INSEAD. Thank you!

Background: Costa Rican citizen, age 30. I completed a 5-year Bachelor of Architecture from a US ivy-league school (currently ranked no.1 in the US for B.Arch). 3.75 GPA, earned medal for best thesis project. Studied abroad in Italy and completed a traveling studio in Switzerland and Germany. Recently obtained an Advanced Diploma in Practice Management from the Royal Institute of British Architects and became fully chartered this year.

Work Experience: Been working for a very well known architecture and engineering firm for 7+ years. Worked for their New York office before transferring to London. My role has evolved from 'traditional' design work to a mix of design, commercial real estate advisory, and general practice management. I was instrumental in winning several flagship projects for the company over the last few years and was recently made associate. Prior to this job, I interned at a large firm in Chicago and a boutique firm in Mexico City.

Extra-curriculars:Editor in Chief of a student-run publication at Cornell. Also pursued an independent research project in India. Traveled to over 30 countries, mostly in a personal capacity.

Post MBA goals: Looking at switching client-side to join a large scale commercial or hospitality developer.

Hey mvieto,

You have a pretty unique profile.

Academically your undergraduate program in Architecture while unique will help differentiate you from the crowd. Most B-schools are looking to add diversity to their cohort and your background gives you a unique perspective which definitely provides a valuable addition to their program. You have a great GPA which showcases your academic prowess and your undergraduate school being the top Ivy-league schools certainly adds to it, since B-schools generally prefer to pick applicants from the top 10 schools of the country. Moreover, your diploma in Practice management showcases your inclination towards the field of management and how you are working towards transitioning from architecture to management.

As far as your work experience goes, you should explain and highlight more on major projects of your work and how these experiences helped to develop and further groom your skills and knowledge. Since you lack big brands in your work experience, you can compensate for it by highlighting why you chose these firms, how you have gone beyond the role, any initiatives you took, and any kind of impact created to showcase your profile better. That said, connecting your work experience and your decision to pursue a master’s is very important.

As you haven’t mentioned many details about your extracurricular activities, I’d like to let you know that Extracurricular participation plays an important role in strengthening your applications as B-schools are on the hunt for all-rounder profiles. That said, it is essential to shed some light on the endeavors you’ve taken up at any clubs, associations, sports you managed or participated in. Volunteering initiatives or certifications undertaken would also count towards your extracurricular initiatives. Thus, you should dig deeper into this aspect and bring out varied skills in your profile or seek to build in this area if the need be.

Coming to your international experiences, the work experience in different cities and your traveling to 30 countries are a great addition to your application. You need to ensure that you highlight what kind of learnings it gave you, what were your takeaways from these trips and how it helped you to grow and develop a broader perspective.

As far as the GMAT goes, a score of 700 and above would allow you to target the top B-schools including INSEAD. You should definitely aim to score as high as you can since a strong GMAT score would bolster the AdComs confidence in your academic abilities and improve your acceptance chances.

You have a great profile and can definitely get accepted in the school you are applying for. Since INSEAD falls under the dream category one thing to keep in mind is, Dream schools have a very stringent acceptance rate of 12-15%. Hence, it is always better to target a mix of dream, competitive and safe schools, in order to hedge your bets wisely. To help you understand better, I’ve suggested a few more schools that you could be targeted according to the different categories.

Dream: LBS, Duke, McCombs
Competitive : ESCP, ESSEC, ESADE, FSFM, IE
Safe : EDHEC, Skema, Grenoble, IESEG

To increase your chances of getting admitted at these schools you would need to ensure that you have a very strong application consisting of well-drafted Essays, LORs, and resume to back your profile. You need to showcase your journey, what makes you different from your peers, and how you are a great value addition to the school.

On this note, if you are looking to target the top B-schools and want to prepare a strong application to meet the Round 1 deadlines right on time, you can check our comprehensive all in one solution that has helped thousands of applicants get into their dream schools including schools like HEC, INSEAD and LBS!

Hi NydhruvKashyap,

Your stats are good (the composition of your GMAT score clearly exhibits good quantitative skills in you). Your work-ex seems good as well with managerial experiences in MNC and some international experience (which you should be able to communicate well, otherwise no point of mentioning them). If you're going to focus primarily on your work-ex, I suggest communicating well your impact on the organizations you have been part of. Also, speaking just about the professional experience will make your application dull, no matter how unique it is. Try to bring good blend of the professional and personal self to bring a person in your application and not just a working man. Here is an article over connecting dots in an application. It talks about how to bring the best essays possible for your applications.

So, overall, from the details you've provided, the profile is good but you really have to put great efforts in bringing a robust story, otherwise, it can be ding for you! Also, a second MBA is not as much a plus as it's a question mark that needs to be explained. You will have to convincingly explain why do you need a second MBA to adcoms. So, best of luck for your application and if you need better guidance from an Insead alum and now a successful consultant, feel free to book a free session with him as per your convenience.

Cheers!

Hi All,
I would really appreciate some candid feedback to my profile. Thanks in advance!

27, female
- Academic background: Software Engineering bachelor degree in Sweden, second tier university, GPA 3.9/4. GMAT score: 740 (Q50, V40)
- Work experience: 4 years in an international IT company. First two years worked as programmer/analyst, currently work within presales as sales engineer. I plan to highlight the transition from technical to business role as an evidence to my interest in business and management in the application.
- International exposure: Grew up in China and Sweden, also lived in Spain for a while. Professionally, I have worked with clients all over the world, from Europe to the US, from the Middle East to Asia. So I am very accustomed to living and working in an international environment.
- Motivation: Career development, alumni network, and new opportunities (both personally and professionally!).

- Concerns: 1. I am not sure if this is a weakness per se. But although my daily work requires teamwork and collaboration, and I have multiple experiences leading a team of engineers/analysts during assignments, I lack managerial position experience on my CV. My concern is how to convince the admission board of my "leadership potential". 2. I try to "compensate" my undergrad school with GPA and GMAT score, but still am not sure if it's enough to demonstrate the academic strength INSEAD is looking for.

-Schools: My dream schools are Sloan and INSEAD. Other target schools are Säid, Judge, and HEC Paris. I am not sure how strong my profile is considered for these schools, or if I should look into other options as well. Any advice will be much appreciated!!

Thanks!
/Jessie

Hi jessiex,

You have an overall good profile with which you can stand a chance to get into the top B-schools. To start off with the strong suits of your profile, your GPA 3.9/4 and GMAT score 740 is really impressive and showcases your academic prowess and capabilities.

Speaking of your work experience, 4 years in an international IT company brings you at par with your competitors. Working for 2 years as a programmer/analyst to switching as a sales engineer proves your interest in business and management. With that, you can highlight your projects which are impactful and add value in a bigger and efficient manner. You should focus on the quality of your work, the positive impact you created, and how you went above and beyond and bloomed in the role.

Another significant aspect that schools focus on is extracurricular activities. So you would be required to elucidate your proactiveness in extracurricular and other initiatives. In case you don’t have any, it's recommended to work upon the same to build a holistic profile. You can take up volunteering work at local shelters or build upon the extracurriculars you participated in during your UG - clubs, associations, competitions, etc.
Coming to your university, the second tier is decent enough but most of your competition will be from tier one, which might be a slight drawback in your profile. But as long as you successfully manage to bring to light the growth you’ve witnessed during your undergraduate, you can overshadow this missing element in your profile.

Since you said you lack a managerial position in your CV, use it as a reason as to why you need to pursue an MBA program. Moreover, you can also state how you hold the potential to be a great manager by mentioning the approaches, victories, and impacts created by you so far in every minor endeavor you spearheaded.

Further given your school choices, Sloan, INSEAD, Säid, Judge, and HEC Paris fall under the dream category. As these schools have a stringent acceptance rate, you’d have 40-50% chance of getting into these schools. That said, it is always advised to target a good mix of dream, competitive, and safe school in order to hedge your bets wisely.

The schools you can additionally be looking at are:

Competitive (70% chance of admittance): ESSEC, ESCP, FSFM, WHU, IE
Safe (70% chance of admittance): EDHEC, Grenoble, Skema

Lastly, while you have a good profile, you need to be aware that you will be facing competition from equally good or even better profiles, which is why, you need to compliment your profile with a strong application that includes essays, letter of recommendation, statement of purpose, and resume that highlights all your strong suits, gives reasoning for the weaknesses and displays how you’d be a good addition to the cohort. As a matter of fact, your application can boost your chances of acceptance by 3x!
