Many are confused that the Atkins Diet, which permits such seeming less healthy foods as bacon, forbids bread.

(A) which permits such seeming less healthy foods as
(B) which permits such seemingly less healthy foods as
(C) which is permitting such seeming less healthy foods like
(D) permitting such foods that seem less healthy, for example
(E) permitting such seeming less healthy foods like

During the test, the following could be one of the fastest ways to solve this problem:

Adjective "seeming" wrongly modifies another adjective "less" - adverb "seemingly" should be used to modify an adjective. Thus A and C can be eliminated.

The present participle modifier "permitting" wrongly modifies the subject of the previous clause "many". Hence D and E can be eliminated.

B is the correct option.

Not clear how permitting is modifying the Subject 'Many' , after the that clause it should modify Atkins diet .

So again any reason why choice E is wrong based on grammar or logic ??

yes, E is incorrect because it used 'like' to present examples. Remember on GMAT, Like can never be used to provide examples.

MANHATTAN REVIEW OFFICIAL EXPLANATION:

You have to determine whether to use seeming or seemingly. Because you are modifying the comparative adjective ‘less healthy’ you need an adverb. Seemingly is the adverb. ‘Seeming’ is therefore incorrect and we are left with B and D. Parallel structure, ‘permits’ and ‘forbids’, leads us to B as the correct answer. In addition, the use of ‘such...as’ in B is far more efficient than the wordy construction in D.
