Why B and not A?
:D

Let me help.

Option A:
Though the Atlantic pilot whale’s flippers can reach one-fifth of their body length or more, the flippers of the short-finned pilot whale are only about one-sixth of their body length.

Meaning:
The comparison is between flippers of Atlantic whale and those of short-finned whale.

Error:
Pronoun error
1. Atlantic whale's flippers...their (here, Atlantic whale's is not a noun! It plays the role of adjective as it is a possessive noun.
2. A pronoun can't modify an adjective. that's why, the pronoun 'their' has no anticedent

B) The flippers of short-finned pilot whale reach only about one-sixth of its body length, while those of the Atlantic pilot whale can reach at least one-fifth of the Atlantic pilot whale’s body length.

=>The flippers of short-finned pilot whale vs those of Atlantic pilot whale (the prounoun 'those' correctly mpdifies the noun 'flippers'
=> There's no prounoun ambiguity
=>'Contrast' is maintained

That's why, B is the answer.

Hello Experts

Why is D eliminated ? I understand that B is a more promising answer choice, but I could not eliminate D on pure grammatical rules. Can you please help ?

Thanks
