A. out of context
B. People suffering from strokes if they don't realize that they suffered from a stroke then they won't bother to get it treated as they would be completely unaware of the fact that they even had one. The term " Rarely" is the key
C. out of context
D. This does not help us at all
E. This option does quite the opposite of what is being asked.

A for me too.
The program misses a part of its target by targeting only people already identified as having risk factors for stroke.
B would be a close contender but I would think A is a more significant flaw?

Chose A in first attempt. But after re-reading I realised I missed a crucial statement in the para.

Quote:
The goal of the program is to reduce the incidence of major complications after a stroke among patients who have risk factors for a stroke.

The goal of the program is not to reduce incidence of major complications after a stroke among ALL patients - but only those already identified as having risk factors for stroke. So that means option A is out.

Only B explains why the program will not achieve its goal entirely. Even if stroke victims know what needs to be done after they suffer a stroke, if they are not able to judge that they just had a stroke - they wont seek immediate medical help - leading to major complications.

Something's confusing in here.

Para says: a study has been conducted on stroke. Stroke symptoms are similar to heart attack, but mostly not recognizable by patient himself. So doctors have been given a guidance material, with the goal to reduce post stroke complications.

That being said, someone has to educate the patient, to determine his symptoms or alternately someone has to question the patient, to arrive at a conclusion that he may have stroke (which may have been perceived differently).

To undermine the conclusion, if the doctor inspite of guidance material fails to identify the high risk areas, the program fails. And that's choice 'A'.

And if the patient has been made cognizant, but still fails to determine his symptoms, program again fails, and that's choice 'B'.

Someone please help in the correct reasoning and analysis.

A study released by a major medical center has found that people who experience a stroke are frequently not treated quickly enough to prevent major complications, such as brain damage and paralysis. Stroke symptoms are similar to those of a heart attack but may pass more quickly, leading victims to believe that there is no need to seek the timely medical treatment required to avoid major long-term complications. As a result of the study, the medical center has implemented a program requiring doctors to review certain educational materials, which explain that stroke victims must immediately seek adequate medical attention when they experience stroke symptoms, with all patients who have risk factors for a stroke. The goal of the program is to reduce the incidence of major complications after a stroke among patients who have risk factors for a stroke.

Which of the following, if true, would most significantly limit the extent to which the program meets its goal?

(A) Most first-time stroke victims have not been previously diagnosed as having risk factors for a stroke.

(B) Stroke symptoms, while readily identifiable by those around stroke victims, are rarely perceived by the stroke victims themselves.

(C) Some stroke victims who seek immediate medical attention after a stroke can still experience major complications.

(D) All of the information contained in the educational materials has already been readily available on the internet for several years.

(E) Because many stroke victims have difficulty moving during and after a stroke, the medical center also provides patients who have risk factors for a stroke with wearable devices that can be used to summon emergency assistance at the push of a button.

Let's Break it down: :P
Aim: To give a reason to show that plan fails>>>> plan= bold one in info given

A)The plan is for patients who have risk factors for a stroke., while this option in general addresses all patients who have a stroke.
Yeah, close one but not a good one.

B)Yes ! this one stroke symptoms are not treated as they are by patients only, so patients can't be classified into people having risk factors>>> plan fails

C) See who's the target of plan. OUT of scope

D) So what ? who reads it ? still this plan may work

E) So what ? who reads it ? still this plan may work

Therefore B is our answer

[b]Hope this helps..!

While reading the stimulus, we must ask why we must assume that the material will be read by the victim. Maybe he doesn’t know that such material must he read.
That or some variation of the above question must be asked.

A. The author talks about reducing the complications for those who have a risk for a stroke.

B. If even after reading the material, he doesn’t know that he is having a stroke, then the whole argument fails. This is a variation of the question we posed. If he cannot comprehend that he got a stroke, it is as useless as not reading the material. So this weakens the argument.

C. Some can get complications, but those who can be salvaged must be salvaged.

D. But compiling it and providing it is always better.

E. This strengthens the argument.

In option B), if people around the stroke victim are able to identify the symptoms, can't they just tell the victim about it so he can seek medical attention?
