Could anyone please confirm the final answer?

Here its written, (C) makes much more sense than (E), and it is our winner

Answer: E

If C makes more sense then how come the answer is E or is this a misprint?

Hi, thanks for pointing this out. It was a misprint and I have updated the post with the correct answer.

~Cheers!

I think this is a poor-quality question. this question does not appear complete. i think the last portion of the passage is missing.

I have practiced 500+ Official GMAT SC Questions and never seen such a wordy question, it is not a tough question but seems out of the scope of GMAT.

'Ottoman Turks' has been repeated within the same sentence in D & E. Should be reason enough to discard them.

Consider option (B):
It has an independent clause within the sentence: 'they sieged unsuccessfully in Vienna in 1529' which is separated only by a comma.

Similarly, in (D):
The clause 'the Ottoman Turks had been unsuccessful in sieging Vienna in 1529' can stand on its own, but is incorrectly used in another sentence without using FANBOYS.

Hence, another reason to eliminate (B) and (D) would be the existence of independent clauses used in the sentence.
