A- run out Subject verb issue
B- incorrectly modify injuries instead of Tracy Austin

Also the phrase " sat out the year from " is it correct?

Big hint for what to choose between “between” and “from” is “1984 to 1988”! “Between” should come with “and”, and “from” is a couple with “to”. And don’t forget to search for causality when several events are listed.

Can someone explain why D is the correct answer here? I've seen in multiple other questions that when an essential part of the sentence is given between commas like in option D, making it look nonessential, it is the incorrect answer.

The sentence implies that she was not plagued by injuries when she won the US Open at the age of 16.
Option C states that she was hampered by her injuries while she won the US Open. This is why it is incorrect
