Official Explanation

RO1

The graph legend indicates that the tasks of the development team are represented by black bars. Analyzing the graph shows that the development team has at least one task scheduled from the beginning of Week 7 to the end of Week 14, for a total of 8 weeks. Thus, the development team has at least one task scheduled for 8 out of the 14 weeks represented by the chart, which is approximately 57.14%. Rounding to the nearest 5% gives 55%.

The correct answer is 55.

RO2

Analyzing the graph shows that the scheduled start times of three tasks—which are the left edges of three bars—are in vertical alignment in only one place on the graph: market research, development, and test plan are all scheduled to begin at the start of Week 8.

The correct answer is 8.

Hello Garima240193

Definitely one can expect such a question in the real GMAT/EA test as this question belongs to the official GMAT/EA source.

The chart shows a firm’s complete time-and-task schedule for the marketing team, planning team, and development team involved in the launching of a new product.

Based on the information in the graph, select from each drop-down menu the option that creates the most accurate statement.

1. To the nearest 5 percent, the number of weeks the development team has at least one task scheduled is percent of the total duration represented by the chart.

2. Week is the only week during which three different tasks are scheduled to begin.
-

1. To the nearest 5 percent, the number of weeks the development team has at least one task scheduled is ___ percent of the total duration represented by the chart.

The black bars of the development team exist in all weeks from 7 to 14 which is 8 weeks. There are total 14 weeks in the timeline.
So the dev team has tasks scheduled in 8/14th of the duration.

In percentage terms, use a calculator to get the exact value 8/14 = 57.12%
or recall that 8/14 = 4/7 and 1/7 is simply 14.28%.
So 4/7 is 4 * 14.28 which is very slightly more than 57% (because 4 times 14 is 56 and 4 times 28 is just above 100)

When we round it to the nearest 5%, it means we round it to either 50% or 55% or 60% or 65% etc whichever is closest. We may round it up or round it down. The point is that it must be the closest value.
57.12 is closer to 55 than to 60. 57.5 is in the middle. anshikag22
Hence 55% is the answer.

2. Week ___ is the only week during which three different tasks are scheduled to begin.

3 bars begin at the beginning of week 8.

Select 8

Week 1 starts at the very beginning of the horizontal axis, not in the middle of a column. So, week 8 start at the read line shown below:

8/14 * 100 = 57.14...%, which rounds to 55% to the nearest 5 percent. It would round to 60% if the result were between 57.5% and 62.5%.
