There are 2 rounds of interviews, each done in groups. Each group consists of 5 (usually) applicants who are interviewed together by the panel.

There is no group case study.

Each round is conducted by a panel of 2 faculty members, who evaluate applicants on why MBA, career goals and expectations, why SPJIMR, awareness on business topics/scenarios, etc (similar to other B-School interviews).

One important thing to note is that, even though there are multiple applicants in each interview, under no circumstances should you cut-in on someone else’s question. The panel views this quite seriously. The question will come around if the panel wants to ask other applicants the same question. You can treat it like a personal interview, unless the panel wants you to refer to/reinforce/ counter/ contradict someone else. In other words, it is a personal interview in a group setting, where the panel will look at your behaviour in a group setting/ toward other people. This is important for them as throughout the program there is a lot of academic work done in groups of 5-6 students, where your individual knowledge/capabilities are as important as your ability to work in a group, which actually reflects real life corporate environment.

Yup.i got a call for interview and i was told that a case study will be given to condidates and they will have to present it via ppt or word doc following the Group discussion. This round will last 30 minutes so i guess around 5-6 applicants will be joining this round altogether. I tried to search about it on web but couldn't find anything. ?

I have been receiving DMs around the case study that is part of the admissions process this year. When I interviewed a few years ago, there was no Case Study.

You should look at the LinkedIn posts by SPJIMR. Specially this one for Cast Studies:

You should also look at the posts/videos by SPJ. Specially the masterclass video by the dean. These will help you think around the ideas/thoughts that are a part of SPJ. Might also help with a few pointers/inputs for interview questions/case studies.

My take on case studies: there are a lot of case studies during the program. Hence, they want to evaluate the approach that you would take in a practical situation (which is what case studies are based on). Using the data and information in the case (shouldn’t be a hard case, my guess- a 3 to 4 pg case study is likely), draw inferences and action points- which is what you would do while at the program. Try to understand that, this is similar to data interpretation during GMAT/CAT/GRE etc, and also practical situations in corporate world. You would need to put together/ assimilate information from a few places (tables and charts and text in the case study) and give your recommendations. While the recommendations are up to you and it is hard to say which decision is right/wrong (similar to practical life), the grasping of data is the important part. I have seen a few case studies where, there are inconsistencies (deliberate on part of case author) between the data in tables and the text in the case (more likely in short cases). Keep your eyes peeled for such things and include your views on these. Cases are always layered (you’ll hear “peel the onion” to no end at SPJ) and are designed to test your critical thinking. A suggestion, instead of looking at subjects and cases which can come up, read an article on “How to read and approach” case studies. That might be more helpful.

It's a simple passage.
Its mostly about a situation where decision is to be taken but there are some constraints.
Advice-

Prepare a format for case study on ms word or ppt with headings already on ur laptop.

General may go like -

Case summary - 3-4 lines objective.

Constraints -

Supporting factors -

Problem 1- (copy paste the first question here)
Analysis-provide your solution( example of a similar/ parallel real world theory/situation may be given) try to Limit in 4-5 lines.

Problem 2-
Problem 3- same pattern.

Conclusion - (decision may be taken if a few factors are taken care of which shall lead to business growth.... Etc. This template may be prepared and practiced.

On the day, you shall be given a passage through email and using ur laptop u shall have to write within 10 minutes and mail back.
Then you shall have to present ur analysis of the case ( try to be precise and to the point only). U may not be able to recollect every point of what you have just written so pace ur presentation accordingly and keep taking peak at ur case analysis.

Then group shall be asked to discuss among themselves and give one combined solution. Here if you volunteer to use ur format (since its well defined already, u may easily get brownie points for initiative, then naturally since you are writing so you shall be discussing with all others which makes you a leader and focal point while others get only a few minutes to speak. Since you've discussed with every one else while writing, you become obvious fit to conclude and give the common presentation as well. Kudos for stealing all the brownie points while showcasing ur skills in discussion with others.
