1.Native of vs Native to
Native to is a correct idiom. Options A,B and C are out.

2. Because of vs Due to
Because of gives reason for action.we need to know why Tasmanian devils are engendered.
Options C and D are out.

3. Because of/ Due to a cancer vs Because of/Due to a devil
Actually, devil facial tumor disease modifies the cancer. We need to use 'Because of a cancer called DFTD. Options B and D are out.

E is the answer

Tasmanian devils, native of the island of Tasmania that is close to Australia, are endangered because of a cancer called Devil Facial Tumor Disease.

"Due to" modifies a noun and "Because of" modifies an action.

“native to” is used as adjective, when we are talking about about a category, characteristic, or species. “a native of” is used as noun, when we are talking about where a person was born.

A) native of the island of Tasmania that is close to Australia, are endangered because of a cancer called Devil Facial Tumor Disease. -> native of the island is close to Australia or Tasmania is closed to Australia. Incorrect.

B) native of the island of Tasmania close to Australia, are endangered because of a Devil Facial Tumor Disease cancer. -> Native is used as an adjective. So, it should be "native to", in place of "native of".

C) native of the Tasmania Island close to Australia, are endangered due to a cancer called Devil Facial Tumor Disease. -> Due to used to modify nouns, we have endangered (verbed form), so "because of" should be used.

D) native to the island of Tasmania close to Australia, are endangered due to a Devil Facial Tumor Disease cancer. -> Same as C.

E) native to the island of Tasmania close to Australia, are endangered because of a cancer called Devil Facial Tumor Disease. -> Usage of native (as an adjective) and because of (modifies verb) are correct. I don't see another issue here.

So, I think E. :)

A) native of the island of Tasmania that is close to Australia, are endangered because of a cancer called Devil Facial Tumor Disease.

B) native of the island of Tasmania close to Australia, are endangered because of a Devil Facial Tumor Disease cancer.

C) native of the Tasmania Island close to Australia, are endangered due to a cancer called Devil Facial Tumor Disease.

D) native to the island of Tasmania close to Australia, are endangered due to a Devil Facial Tumor Disease cancer.

E) native to the island of Tasmania close to Australia, are endangered because of a cancer called Devil Facial Tumor Disease.

IMO A .

Here 'are endangered' -- verb -- Need because of not due to .. C.D out ...

Devil Facial Tumor Disease cancer -- not connected well . Modifier error .

Out of A and E .
A is correct since native of seems correct .

According to Kaplan "native to" must be used with things and "native of" with people.

This strange plant is native to Australia.

Agassi is a native of Las Vegas.

“Devil Facial Tumor Disease” is the name of a disease, and it already contains the word “tumor” that almost means “cancer”. A cancer is a type of tumor, to be more precise. Hence, saying “Devil Facial Tumor Disease cancer” is redundant. So, there is a cancer and it’s called Devil Facial Tumor Disease.

The word “native” can be either a noun or an adjective. In both forms, it can describe people, animals, and plants.
As an djective “native to”. As a noun “a native of”.

- She is native to Mars. (adj)
- This animal is native to Mars. (adj)
- These animals are native to Mars (adj)

- She is a native of Mars. (noun)
- This animal is a native of Mars (noun)
- These animals are natives of Mars. (noun)

“Tasmanian devils” is plural. So, A, B, and C should have started with “natives of”.

Hence E.

Tasmanian devils, native of the island of Tasmania that is close to Australia, are endangered because of a cancer called Devil Facial Tumor Disease.

Options C and D are incorrect because of the inappropriate usage of "due to"

Option B can be eliminated as "Devil Facial Tumor Disease cancer" is unidiomatic.

Between Native to and Native of use:

-Native of: when indicating the place of birth of a person
Ex: I am a native of Jaipur, Rajasthan(Meaning, I was born there)

-Native to: when we talk about (of a plant or animal) indigenous origin or growth.
Ex: Turmeric plant is native to Indian sub-continent(Meaning, it grows or is found there)

Also, I am not sure if in Option A "THAT" is used judiciously.

IMO, Answer is E

Feedback on analysis is welcome though! :)

Tasmanian devils, native of the island of Tasmania that is close to Australia, are endangered because of a cancer called Devil Facial Tumor Disease.

Native of is used for humans
Native to is used for animals.
Eliminate A, B, and C.

D) native to the island of Tasmania close to Australia, are endangered due to a Devil Facial Tumor Disease cancer.
Replace 'due to' with 'caused by'

native to the island of Tasmania close to Australia, are endangered caused by a Devil Facial Tumor Disease cancer.
Two verbs are there back to back. So, sentence is incorrect.

E) native to the island of Tasmania close to Australia, are endangered because of a cancer called Devil Facial Tumor Disease.

Choice E is the answer

Quote:
A) native of the island of Tasmania that is close to Australia, are endangered because of a cancer called Devil Facial Tumor Disease.
'that' to me seems fishy.
Is the island of Tasmania close to Australia or Tasmania itself is close to Australia??
In my opinion the island is what is being talked about. Therefore Eliminate this.

Quote:
B) native of the island of Tasmania close to Australia, are endangered because of a Devil Facial Tumor Disease cancer.
Devil Facial Tumor Disease cancer is awkward and is redundant.
Tumor disease itself means something cancer related.Eliminate

Quote:
C) native of the Tasmania Island close to Australia, are endangered due to a cancer called Devil Facial Tumor Disease.
D) native to the island of Tasmania close to Australia, are endangered due to a Devil Facial Tumor Disease cancer.
Replace 'due to' with 'caused by'
Tasmanian devils,------,are endangered caused by a cancer...This is incorrect. Eliminate

Quote:
E) native to the island of Tasmania close to Australia, are endangered because of a cancer called Devil Facial Tumor Disease.
This is a correct choice.
Tasmanian devils are native to the island of Tasmania.
This island is close to Australia.
These devils are endangered because of a cancer called Devil Facial Tumor Disease
