A dog chase a cat and takes 6 leaps for every 9 leaps of the cat, but 3 leaps of the dog are equal to 5 leaps of the cat. What is the ration of the speeds of the dog and the cat?

Let the leap length of dog be D and leap length of cat be C
3 leaps of dog are equal to 5 leaps of cat ,i.e.
3D=5C
So D =5/3C

The dog takes 6 leaps for every 9 leaps of cat, i.e. in the same time say t the dog leaps 6 times and cat leaps 9 times

So distance covered by dog in time t= 6 D = 6*5/3C=10C

Distance covered by cat in same time =9C

So ratio of speed of dog and cat is 10C/9C = 10/9

Cat leaps=9; transform to dog leap s=9 leaps* \frac{3}{5} dog leaps=\frac{27}{5} dog leaps.

Ratio=\frac{6}{27/5} = \frac{30}{29} = \frac{10}{9}

Every 3 D leaps are equal to 5 C leaps -----> 3D = 5C --- > D = 5/3C, but rates are 1/1 D and 3/5 C (1 leap in a unit of time and 3/5 leap in a unit of time, respectively).
However, the Dog makes just 6 leaps every 9 made by the Cat, hence 6 * 1/1 : 9 * 3/5 ----> 6 : 27/5 the ratio of number of leaps. Bringing it to integers 5 * both sides ----> 30 : 27 ----> 10 : 9

You have to consider that they give you on the one hand the equivalence of length of the leaps and on the other hand the equivalence of time. You should find the ratio of leaps in the same unit of time.
