I interviewed more than 10 admissions consultants in 2021 and around 5-6 in 2020 only to realize the less I know the better! (Tame Impala fans anyone? )
It's easy to get lost in the myriad of information while at the same time the imposter syndrome kicks in and you find your hopes and aspirations crashing just like the cryptocurrency market.
I collaborated with few applicants and also added the questions which you must ask before you spend $$$ to have an admission consultant on board
1. Understand how you will be working on a day-to-day basis with your consultant? What's the protocol like, if possible get that in advance
2. Of the 3/5/7 schools that we choose to work with-would we will be selecting schools like-Dream, Reach, and safety? What if I don't agree with your selection process, do I still get to veto?
3.Understand the number of edits that your consultant can go on and avoid any surprises thereafter
4.Would I be working directly with you or any other team member? Ask the consultant whom you will be working , it might be possible that you vibe with them on a call but could be the case that they allot you a different consultant later.
5.How often I can bug you with calls and emails and how would we will be communicating
6.How many applicants are you working with and would you be able to provide personal and 1:1 guidance?
7.Are there any group sessions would you be taking or all are 1:1 sessions
8.How early do we get to submit applications prior to the deadline?
9.If I don't apply to the schools I work with you in R1, would that be carry forwarded in the next round?
10.Would you be able to connect you with Alumni from the schools you are applying to
11.Have you worked with someone similar to my background (twin resume) and where did they end up?
12.What do you think are the spikes in my profile?
13.And what do you think are the weakest links in my profile
14.How many people you have worked with applied via GRE? Should I retake GRE ?
