let y = sqrt(x)

Then the eq becomes y^2 + y -20 = 0

y^2 + 5y -4y -20 = 0
y(y+5) -4(y+5)=0

y = -5 or y = 4

Therefore -

sqrt(x) = -5 INCORRECT
OR
sqrt(x) = 4

We are require to find the value of x, Therefore x = 4^2 = 16

I don't know how to do the math equations on here so sorry
:(
:cry:
I agree with your solution. I believe 16 is the only root of this equation, so the sum of roots becomes 16. KarishmaB can you please correct me if I am wrong?

Yes, this is correct. Principal square root cannot be negative.
