Which OG study materials do I need?

Question

Hi all! I need help figuring out which OG study materials I need.

1. OG 2022 (comes with a question bank of additional 170 questions - https://www.mba.com/exam-prep/gmat-offi ... stion-bank)

2. OG 2022 Verbal Review (also comes with an online question but MBA.com doesn't say how many - so will this online question bank be different from that in the main OG 2022?)

3. OG 2022 Quant Review (same question as above)

4. GMAT Official practice questions 1

5. GMAT Official practice questions 2

6. GMAT Advanced Questions (which ALSO comes with a question bank - will it be different from the ones above?)

I'm assuming I should definitely get 2 and 3, and maybe 4 and 5. I'll get 6 if I've exhausted everything else and still have time left over. Also, if I already have OG 2021 is it worth buying 2022 for the additional official questions?

This is all super confusing so any help would be really appreciated! Thanks!

Hi spider12345123,

The OG books are great sources for practice questions, but they're not designed to teach you Tactics, patterns or the little 'secrets' behind the GMAT - for those, you'll need Course-oriented materials. Any recent version of the main Official Guide should be quite useful, but it's not clear whether you 'need' any of those other materials or not. Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far? What “brands” of CATs/mocks have you used?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

So I am currently working my way through the TTP course. I'm about 60% through and my test date is scheduled 2 months from now. So far, I've focussed exclusively on TTP and while I've learned a lot from it, I think I should also spend some time going through as many official questions as I can (I'll still continue working on TTP alongside the OG questions). Basically, then, I'm trying to figure out which official resources I should use to complement my prep. I think I'll definitely get the OG 2022, OG Quant Review 2022, OG Verbal review 2022, and all 6 OG practice tests. However, I'm not sure if I should also get the GMAT Official Practice Question Banks 1 and 2 and/or the Advanced OG GMAT guide. What do you think?

Official questions are going to be far more useful to study than any prep company questions. Just how many official questions you need depends on how much time you have, and how far you are from your goal score. Until recently, most experts would have advised you get a recent OG, QR and VR book, and then add on extra official question resources if you need them. Now there are so many official products it's hard to keep track of what overlaps with what, and I haven't explored some of the new online bonus questions, so I'm afraid I can't answer your specific questions.

And you should not prepare for the GMAT by working through a ton of prep company material, then only when you're done moving on to official questions. Real GMAT questions tend to be different from prep company questions in important ways, and you want to know early on what you're preparing for. You should be working on relevant official questions at the same time as you're learning the content.

I believe the video is available inside the TTP course dashboard. You can usually find it in the study strategy or OG integration section. If not, TTP support should be able to point you to the exact link pretty quickly.
