why Not D ?
As the arguments states
1. Actors with personal life issues get more work and recognition
so problem in actors life may lead to its popularity
therefore assumption is that who do not have an issue in one's personal life they are more likely to be unpopular

Actors who are embroiled in personal conflicts produce greater impact on popular culture, as measured by the number of times such actors' personal conflicts are referred to in subsequent movies, songs, and books, that do other actors who do not have troubled personal lives. On an average, a personal troubled actor is cited as much as 70% more than other actors of similar era and popularity. The differene clearly shows that actors with personal troubles contribute greater to popular culture than those with little personal complications.

which of the following is an assumption on which the argument depends?

A. Some actors have greater control over the media which results in more references in movies, songs, and books.
B. It is possible to clearly indicate the link between popular culture reference and an actor's personal troubles.
C. The number of references in movies, songs, and books is a fair measure of the actor's influnce on popular culture.
D. Actors who live a relatively trouble-free personal life do not posssess inspiring material for movies, songs and books.
E. Popular culture often lauds iconoclastic personalities who often go through pitfalls in personal life.

Option D says that actors who live relatively trouble free personal life do not possess inspiring material. Not possessing inspiring material and not producing impact on popular culture are not the same. Even if they did possess inspiring material, it doesn’t imply that they will create impact on popular culture. So negating this option doesn’t break the argument.

Hi RenB

My decision to eliminate choice B is because of "clearly". A word like clearly is double emphasizing (++) the link here

if we negate option B, it can pretty well say "At least it is possible to indicate the link between popular culture reference and an actor's personal troubles". Which doesn't still break down the conclusion.

a blinder here would be to look out for adverbs like clearly, certainly etc. & eliminate them

The problem with D is, it doesn't directly connect the conclusion of the author with his premise, even if D were to be true, it doesnt entirely effect author's statement. Hence, C is the more adept assumption as it directly connects the premise to the conclusion
