What are the chances of waitlist conversion? Realistically it actually converts or it just is a safekeeping for the school?
Hi
Nanana123,
the short answer is that many people on the waitlist do convert.
INSEAD usually builds a large waitlist in R1 and R2, and waitlisted applicants usually start getting admit calls towards the end of R3 and R4. So, it could be a long ride. But I have also seen applicants being accepted only a week after being waitlisted. Unfortunately, in the case of INSEAD, the waitlist is like a black box; from the outside, decisions could look random.
For example, many applicants, to improve their chances of converting, retake the GMAT, attend as many INSEAD events as they can, get in touch with clubs... and nothing happens to them. While some other people do nothing and get the admit call. So, again, a black box.
But, when waitlisted, the rule of thumb is to contact your AO once a month or so, at least to show your continuous interest in INSEAD. You can also update her about any improvements in your profile, e.g. a promotion at work, new GMAT score...
In my experience, most of my clients (if not all) who were waitlisted and didn't accept offers from other schools eventually received the admit call. All it took was patience. I know it's easier said than done, though.
I hope this helps.
Warm regards
Alex
