↧↧↧ Detailed Video Solution to the Problem ↧↧↧

Given that \(p > 0\) and \(p^5 + k^5 = 250\) and we need to find the greatest possible value of k

\(p^5 + k^5 = 250\)
\(k^5 = 250 - p^5\)

Now, p > 0 and we need to find the maximum value of k
=> p has to be minuimun
Let's take a small value of p i.e. p = 0.0001
=> \(p^5 = (0.0001)^5\) ~ 0
=> \(k^5\) ~ 250

Now, \(1^5\) = 1
\(2^5\) = 32
\(3^5\) = 243
\(4^5\) > 250 (i.e. 1024)

=> k will be between 3 and 4

So, Answer will be C
Hope it helps!

Tricky question:

I went about recognizing the borders for each in between.

Found that 3 to the 5th power equates to 243. From there, you can assume that that's the lowest border it can be.

Easily go with 3 and 4.5, as anything higher than 4.5 would exceed 250, and anything below 3 would leave doubt.
