GMAT Journey: From 700 (Classic) to 665 (Focus Edition) — Don’t Give Up!
I wanted to share my GMAT journey in case someone out there is feeling stuck or thinking of giving up.
• Background: Graduated in 2020 as an engineer, currently working at an AI consulting firm.
• 2022: First thought about pursuing B-school.
• Early 2023: Started prep seriously. Joined a structured coaching program in GMAT30 (@ParamjitDasGMAT) and got a lot of guidance from my verbal mentor. With ~5-6 months of prep, I scored 700 (Classic, V37).
• Applications: Applied to ISB, got the interview call, but ended up waitlisted and finally rejected. That was tough, nearly gave up and took a 6-month break.
• 2024 Attempt: Came back with Focus Edition prep in April 2024. My mentors continued supporting me informally, helping with CR, DS, RC strategies, and overall prep. In Aug 2024, I sat for the exam again and scored 665 (FE).
Not the perfect ending, but definitely a story of persistence. GMAT is as much about mental resilience as it is about prep.
If anyone feels stuck, don’t hesitate to reach out — happy to share tips/resources that helped me along the way.
Good luck to everyone still on their journey 💯
