I started my GMAT journey about a year ago. Coming from an engineering background, I was fairly confident about Quant but knew that Verbal, would require sustained effort.
Attempt 1 (Jan 2025) – Score: 595 (Q83, V78, D77)

- For my first attempt, I managed most of my preparation independently, took TTP GMAT subscription.
- On Quant, I relied on self-practice, targeting accuracy over speed, which helped me build a decent base.
- However, on Verbal, despite effort, I struggled to consistently identify argument structures in CR and maintain accuracy in RC. My timing strategy also broke down under exam pressure.
- Between attempts, I sought structured help for Verbal through GMAT Whiz. This gave me frameworks to break CR questions into conclusion-premise-gaps and taught me systematic elimination strategies.
- But the verbal score has still not moved up.
- Quant was mostly self-prepped for the second attempt
- In DI, I'm still struggling with verbal style , TPAs and MSRs which are pulling my score down.
I come from a non-english background, initially struggled to understand long sentences of GMAT verbal questions. Would be great if anyone reading this and went through similar journey where verbal score was not improving for long time, pls help with your inputs and ideas.

Consider checking out Manhattan-Prep's 6th Edition for Critical Reasoning. For RC, if you want to practice reading without burning official passages/questions, articles from The Economist could be helpful as well. Becomining familiar with how inference questions work on the GMAT could also help a bit.

I started building streaks on each topic of CR using the above approach and varied difficulty from easy -> medium -> hard. After practicing 100s of questions from all topics to achieve my desired streak, I was hitting 100% accuracy in CR in my final official mocks.
For RCs, I started practicing 4 RCs back to back in my practice sessions, and timed myself according to the total questions across the set. Reading the full passage once and then barely going back to the passage while answering the questions helped me sharpen my timing.
