ESSEC MIM Interview Experience R1 Hey everyone!
I recently had my
ESSEC MIM interview, and here’s a quick rundown that might help future applicants
The interview was more of a
conversation than a strict Q&A — they really tried to understand
who I am as a person. It went for like 1 hour.
Question 1: I can remember “Please introduce yourself.”:
This is where your
storyline matters — how you chose your undergrad, how your professional experience evolved, why you switched any company (if applicable), and a short 2–3 word summary of your key responsibilities.
Basically, make it sound like a story, not a resume readout.
Question 2: Why MIM
This one is obvious but super important.
Make sure your answer connects clearly to your goals and why a
MIM (not an MBA or another degree) makes sense for you at this stage.
Question 3: Why ESSEC & Why France
I guess both are important, they want you to know these answers, they will ask these anyhow direct or indirect
For
Why France, I tied it to France’s
student-friendly environment,
diversity, and
global exposure, but made
ESSEC the center of my answer — the main reason why France stood out for me.
Question 4: Family Business Question
Since I mentioned in my essays that I plan to join my family business in the long term:
WE HAD A VERY LONG DISCUSSION ABOUT “Why not join it now?”I explained it through my MIM motivation — that I wanted to gain global exposure, connections, and strategic knowledge before joining.
The interviewer said,
“You’re very clear about your goals and how you want to achieve them.” - I really don't know what that means, because he kept pushing me to change from MIM to join it now.
Question 5: Personal & Behavioral Questions
They went deep into my background, almost like getting to know me as a person:
- Hobbies
- Friend circle, how many friends do I have
- Whether I dance or not 😅
- How my peers would describe me
- One weakness my peers might mention, and if I agree with it.
Question 6: Situation-Based Questions
- Any Instance where you had a clash with your professor, how you tackled that
- Any Instance Where you led something and that was impactful.
- 1-2 more were there, but I am not able to recall them properly.
Some Points I want to highlight- They try to understand you beyond your CV.
- Always follow STAR approach (giving context about the situation, what you did, and what the results were)
- Be ready to explain every detail in your application — from your background to your goals — and prepare all the questions Dexter43 provided (they really help!). Sharing the link of the same
Interview Guide ~ By Dexter43 - Keep it conversational — think of it like a coffee chat, not a cross-examination
Please feel free to DM if there is any help I can provide!
Many thanks!!
