While i think C is also a good option. Option D seemed more plausible to me, just because it specifically mentioned the term "original book", not "new edition".

If the official answer would have argued for Option D, mentioning my explanation (in the way i explained it), I would have taken their word for it, since thats what naturally came to me. But, since the official explanation argue for Option C. I just have to take their word for it being a better answer. And I fear if this question came up in the exam, i would make the same mistake of choosing Option D again. This is the problem with CR for me. Some options just seem right to me, but turns out to be wrong.

I'd appreciate if anyone can provide any help with this.
"Original book" means novel in here and not the first edition of the book, so it could be any edition including the new edition.Interest in the book could lead to more sales. therefore it is not the correct answer.
Quote:
D. Several top critics who previewed the film have praised its faithfulness to the novel, potentially increasing viewers’ interest in reading the original book.
While C talks about preparation and it won't affect sales in any way therefore, that's the correct answer.

Hope that helps.

major film studio announced the release date of movie based on novel.
novel was popular when it was released first and been out of print for nearly fifteen years.

goal- want to capitalize on anticipated success of the film.
plan- publisher who owns the copyright on novel plans to print new edition to be made available the same week the film releases.

we need to strengthen the plan so lets find 4 strengthener.

A so if he has permission to use particular phrase on the cover page of book then it attracts people to give it shot and read it. so this helps to achieve goal.
B this directly says that film based on novel does increase the interest and sales of that novel. so this does strengthen.
C this has no impact though. just because publisher received money and ordered large printing run doesnt mean people are going to buy those novels. this talks about how publishers printing more of books but it doesnt tell how audience will purchase the new novels. so this is clearly out of strengthener. keep this.
D reviews are saying film has done justice with books content and that does increase the interest in people to read the novel itself. so this also strengthen it. reject.
E if the old fan of book are eager for movie and willing to purchased the new version of book then goal does get fulfilled. so this helps.

A major film studio announced the release date of a movie based on a novel that, though it was a bestseller when first published, has been out of print for nearly fifteen years. Hoping to capitalize on the anticipated success of the film, the publisher who owns the copyright on the novel plans to print a new edition to be made available the same week the film premieres.

Each of the following, if true, supports the soundness of the publisher’s plan to capitalize on the success of the film EXCEPT:

A. The publisher has received permission from the film studio to stamp the words “Now a major motion picture” on the cover of each book.
B. The publisher has received reports that film adaptations tend to increase interest in and sales of their source novels, particularly when the novels were previously bestsellers.
C. The publisher has used the advance payment received from the film studio to secure a large initial print run of the novel, anticipating higher demand.
D. Several top critics who previewed the film have praised its faithfulness to the novel, potentially increasing viewers’ interest in reading the original book.
E. A recent survey showed that many fans of the novel are excited about the film adaptation and plan to purchase the new edition upon its release.
