SSWTtoKellogg - You could leverage the optional essay to talk about the reason for your resignation i.e. securing the US admit and searching for an internship, and why you're still applying to INSEAD i.e. why'd you prefer INSEAD over the other admit.

I don't think this would be a cause for concern, as long as you're honest and align the move with your career goals.

If you're shortlisted for interviews, expect questions around your geographic preferences (US vs EU), career goals, and how exactly INSEAD fits in at this juncture.

Hope this helps.

Arvind

Hi SSWTtoKellogg just saw the tag a little late

May I add that you have the exact same profile as my pre INSEAD profile.
People resign from jobs before or during B school applications all the time, so this would not be looked upon with disdain. What matters is whether you have good opportunities to upskill or internship opportunities from your target domain or top post MBA recruiters. Even if there is no formal room to upload additional documents, try to attach whatever internship offers you have in hand along with other supporting documents in your INSEAD application. Also talk about it in the essays. I am a little lost when you say 'I plan to pursue a consulting internship.' Do you have an offer or not? Even if you get one after submitting the application, make sure you keep the adcom updated about the same.

Edit- I saw that you are in the process of applying for an internship. This changes things a little because eight months is a very long time not to have a plan. If you know you are actively exploring what is out there, you could hold back on how much you disclose to the school at this point. You may choose not to disclose your resignation at the moment and update them with the information a little later. You may ofcourse say that you are actively looking for internships. My concern is that a slightly improved score would have kept you in the INSEAD admissions loop with a higher probability.

Happy to answer any questions

Best wishes

Hello Experts,
I’m planning to apply to INSEAD (Jan ’27 intake, Round 2, deadline April 21; interview decisions on May 29). I’ve already resigned from my current role, and my last working day is April 3.
Post my last working day, I plan to pursue a consulting internship aligned with my short-term goals.
I’d appreciate advice on how to present this in my application, especially where they ask about my last working day and my plans afterward. How can I communicate this clearly without creating the wrong impression?
Also, could this be perceived as an irresponsible decision? Any guidance would be really helpful.

Below is my profile detail :

Work experience:
I have 8+ years of experience in Leading Automotive OEMs in Research and Development and briefly in Manufacturing.

(II) Hackathon winner - Data-driven customer insight developed for electric vehicles
(III) Department Award 2024 for Global Product owner

Academics:
Graduated in Mechanical Engineering. Among top 5% in the class of undergrad.

Certification:
Six Sigma certified

Outside work:
