Given: Increasing incidence of theft observed in K;s main airport.
In Response, K's airport commission posted several brightly coloured posters at airport's main entrance making travellers beware of increasing incidence of pickpockets.
what happened resultantly, frequency of pickpocket thefts at K's main airport increased at faster rate than before the notices were posted.
We have to evaluate why this contrary event happened?
lets check options one by one and my best approach process of elimination to be followed.
A) if 40% are unable to reach the posters due to language issue, it may cause them not to pay attention to notice boards. It may explain. but, lets brings out our statistics. these 40% were not knowing anyway earlier as well when notice board were not put in place. on the contrary 60 % are now knowing since they can read through posters. so statistically these 60% should be aware and pickpocketing should decrease. so not an plausible explanation... rule out
B) Second statement is not at all concerned with the argument main point. what is the relationship between K becoming popular premium luxury shopping destination to increase in theft. we can't say by given facts. easy rule out as of now.
C) The local police started patrolling the main public area of K's airport after notice boards were put. In fact it should contribute to stopping the theft because police became more vigilant. it Can't at least contribute to increase in theft unless we go for any baseless assumption. so easy rule out again.
D) This statement says whenever such warning signs are displayed, people started groping or physically look for the valuable belongings more than before and this is same across all demographic and culture which any typical airport constitute. So, this may give signs to robbers where the exact valuable belongings are there, making their job easy. earlier they had to identify and then theft, now, people are making it easy to locate. This seems to be the best possible explanation so far.
E) According to this statement if belongings are tied to their body and hidden within cloth, it can only decrease chances of theft. it can't increase unless robbers can murder people in broad daylight with such courage which is a superfluous assumption. so rule out.
Option-D seems the best and my answer
