Hi dhairyajain,

This is a great question, because the whole thing turns on one word in the instructions. Let me settle the concept first, then show it live on Statements 1 and 3.

Read the instruction literally: "Select Yes if it can be determined that the statement is true. Otherwise, No." So there are really three outcomes, and only one of them earns a Yes:

- The statement is determinably true - Yes
- The statement is determinably false - No
- You can't tell either way - No

That middle case is the trap you fell into. "I can figure it out" is not the test - "I can figure out that it's true" is. Being able to compute the answer doesn't get you a Yes if the computed answer comes out false.

Statement 3 (the one that surprised you): You're completely right that it's fully determinable. Let's finish the calculation using the table from Bunuel's post:

- H + I pooled: (160,600 + 196,000) / (22 + 28) = 356,600 / 50 = 7,132 kg per hectare
- C alone: 131,400 / 18 = 7,300 kg per hectare

The statement claims H + I is greater than C. But 7,132 < 7,300, so the claim is false - determinable, but false - No. Your instinct to compute was right; the verdict just came out false.

Statement 1: E's yield is 75,600 / 28 = 2,700 kg per hectare, while every other vineyard sits around 7,000. A hailstorm slashes grapes harvested while leaving hectares and labor untouched - exactly the fingerprint of E's lonely low number. So it's determinably true - Yes.

One-line rehearsal to lock it in: Take the claim "2 + 2 = 5." You can absolutely determine it - but it's false, so it's a No, not a Yes. Same logic drove Statement 3.

Answer: Yes

dhairyajain
--> Why is the 1st statement "If exactly one vineyard was affected by a severe localized hailstorm shortly before harvest, that vineyard was most likely Vineyard E" yes?

-->In questions like this, where we are asked whether a statement “can be determined from the information provided,” are we supposed to actually determine whether the statement is true or false?

Or, is the correct approach simply to select “Yes” if we can determine/solve what the statement is asking, regardless of whether the statement itself turns out to be true or false?

Asking because, for the 3rd statement," Considering Vineyards H and I together, the number of kilograms of grapes harvested per hectare was greater than that at Vineyard C." I can definitely figure this out based on this table whether it's true or false, and according to that logic, the solution should be YES. But the actual answer is NO.
