I don't know why I am even waiting. My app went complete on 1/8 and have not heard anything since then, so, I think I am dinged for sure.

Correlation(complete date, interview invite date) = 0

I certainly hope so....with my app having gone complete on 23 DEC, I am royally screwed otherwise!

I am from India, by the way.

really? that sounds different - I was admitted in R1 and they called everybody the day before the deadline with offers.

anyway, calm down folks - my interview invite and admission offer both came right at the last minute. as rhyme and others have said, there isn't much evidence that the best candidates get invites first, or anything.

easier said than done I know. good luck anyway guys!

I agree with Britguy...also admitted in R1, I got the interview invite at 8 AM CST the very first day of invitations and I was later admitted but with no $$$.

One of my friends was part of the DSAC (Dean's Student Admissions Council) and he told me that they invite as they read, that there is no set quota and there is no correlation whatsoever between timing and strength of profile.

Anyways, from my brief experience as a candidate, I would say that having a super solid interview is one of the keys to get in, with special emphasis on the Why Chicago question...

yeah I second this. I don't know how much importance is placed on the interview in the whole process but I really feel that Chicago wants people who want Chicago. have a good story ready!

But my big question has always been in what order do they read? Is it randomized? I believe (I could totally be mistaken) that they were still completing some applications during the interview notification period. That would mean, to me, that there were at least some applications that would be queued definitely ahead of other applications, unless the order is randomized constantly. That seems difficult if the applications are printed beforehand but less difficult if they're printed on-demand (that is, they have it set-up to print one random, completed application each time a reader indicates to the system he/she is ready for another file).

Anyway, no sense worrying about it. If I were to end up at Booth, I would definitely want to become a reader; I'm so curious about the process.

there are a million conspiracy theories but the consensus is that it's just luck of the draw.

Ha, I'm confident in that. Just, of course, curious about the rules of the draw. :)

If it was absolutely random from the very start until the very last two applications waiting to be read in each round, it would be a very impressive, well-conceived, exceptionally-fair system. I highly doubt it's absolutely random but I'm very sure it's essentially random within an overwhelmingly large range of applications.
