so from last year's page I see that R1 acceotances started from 4 Dec! will it be that early this yer as well? I just finished my interview on Nov 11 so is it likely that irrespective I will only hear closer to the deadline of Jan 7th? *nervous*!!

Quite recently I was reading ripper's old journey to b-school post (as I do from time to time to get some perspective on life - coz his post in reality is a lot more than just applying - it has everything from a doubting parent to construction work) and read that the final invites start going out beginning the last week of November or so.

But that said, for those that were matched to alumni, the review supposedly happens only after the interview is complete....

Hey guys,

The Kellogg Marketing Competition took place last night. Here's a video one of the teams released. Some inside jokes but I think most are self explanatory.

The guy singing also edited the video and wrote the song. He is going places!

the video's great! n i hear P&G really liked it too!
but isnt the KMC about teams marketing a new product ...I assumed it was a product they had to develop or are they all assigned certain brands?

Each team is given a product and has to develop a marketing campaign. On the last day there is a fair where each student can "buy" products with tickets that we get. I think they all sold out this year which suggests that pricing and margins had a lot to do with the eventual winner. This didn't leave the deodorant team with much of a chance in my opinion because their product costs a lot more than most other products (peeps marshmellows, twizzlers, etc.).

Still, it was a lot of fun and I think the guy who made the video is going to be a superstar.

Has anyone been accepted to Kellogg yet? My roommate told me a while back that someone from work applied and has already been accepted. I haven't seen anything on these boards yet. Anyone know?

Guys,

I've got a question for you

I report to one of the General managers in my company. Though he has agreed to write a reco for me, I'm afraid he won't be able to write a good reco. Though I can provide him with examples which showcase my leadership abilities, because of my relationship, I cannot ask him to exaggerate. So, I fear his tone is going to be neutral.

I can also take a reco from the Manager of my department. Though this manager and I both report to the GM, I believe he can show me in possitive light by quoting specific examples.

What should I do?

Also, do I have the option of changing the name of the recommender after I nominate one?

Appreciate your help

Kind regards,

Unplugged

It's always better to get reco from someone who know you well.
A one para reco from your general manager will help much lesser than a one page reco from your immediate supervisor.
Also provide somthng like a write-up of your career goals and achievements to your recommendor and ask them to understand the importance of their reco.

Though I can provide him with examples which showcase my leadership abilities, because of my relationship, I cannot ask him to exaggerate

Advice on the above - never ask them to exaggerate anything. IMO the reco is best when it looks genuine.

Just a clarificaiton: When I said 'exaggerate' I didn't mean the use of it in the literal sense.

Choice of words can have a bearing on the tone of the reco. There is a diff. between saying 'he is very good' and 'he is exceptional'. Even this slight alteration, I think, amounts to exaggeration.

BTW, Do you know anything about my second question: 'do I have the option of changing the name of the recommender after I nominate one?

dear unplugged, as per my understanding you can make changes as long as the recommender hasn't started the process from his side. I would suggest you to check this with the adcom though.

i dont believe thats possible. The earliest that Kellogg has sent out admits in the past is the last week of November, and that too a handful. So stay relaxed till then

Hey all Kellogg r1 applicants--newcomer to the board here.

I applied r1 to Kellogg and did my interview about two weeks ago with an alum. It was a pretty casual conversation--he asked all the usual "tell me about your resume, why mba, why kellogg" questions, but he did not ask many behavior questions nor did he take any notes at all!!! I thought that was just very odd...Now I'm just worried whether he has enough info to complete my interview profile, or if he has submitted it...

I think I just being paranoid, but did anyone else have a similar experience?

Thanks in advance!

I had a similar experience. It was a very friendly conversation that probably lasted 75 minutes, but wasn't terribly detailed. He didn't take any notes and, while we definitely talked about my experience and the why MBA stuff, it seemed like more of a chat between friends than an interview. I have no idea if that's a good thing; my own personal paranoia makes me feel like I didn't come off as sufficiently serious.

I just asked my roommate again, and he said that the guy at work applied to a different program at Kellogg, the commuter program, I think, where you fly in to Chicago every weekend for 3 years. Honestly, I don't think I'd ever go for something like that. To each his own, I guess.

I was there for this event, my friend was on the Shout Color Catchers team. While that TG reminded me of an overcrowded concert or moshpit, it was great to see the liveliness and personality of Kellogg students. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit.
