Guys
I am interviewing with an alum who graduated 9 years back. I'm really puzzled about what questions I can ask him at the end of the iview.
Any tips/advice?
Thanks a bunch

Well since you seem concerned about the length of time since he passed out, you should quiz him on it. Just some ideas wihout any background on what field your alumni interviewer is in:

1. How has your relationship with Kellogg changed in the 9 years since graduation?
2. How has the school suported you in any career choices you made well after graduation?
3. How often do you recruit at Kellogg? etc...

That's the same as mine except there is a "View Interview Match Letter" link at the bottom. Perhaps mine is different as I requested an off-campus interview.

Applicants requesting an off-campus interview will be notified of their assignment or waiver via e-mail within eight weeks of submitting Part I.

I guess you still have two weeks...

Question -

I had a great 1 month internship in my college senior year summer where I apprenticed for free with a star money manager.

Will adcom hate me if I include this information in the work history section where they specifically ask for full-time information? I had four internships in college but this one I feel was the best.

Would love your thoughts.

I forget if they specify "post-graduate" work or not. If that's the case, you might look to point to that experience in another aspect of the application.

Well maybe you can list it under extra cirricular, although 1 month summer internship that isn't noteworthy enough to be in your essays probably won't change your application any.

Generally speaking, full-time work experience wouldn't include an internship. If you feel that the internship really had that much of an impact on you then you should talk about it elsewhere in the application. But to be honest, if I were reading your essay (full disclosure: I'm not an application reader at Kellogg), it would probably raise some questions for me since you only interned for a month. It could come off as an attempt to name-drop the money manager's name rather than talk about a meaningful experience in your career. Unless of course the month you spent with him totally ignited your passion for IM for X, Y and Z reasons, in which case it could fit well in your career goals essay.

This wait is killing me...got a reply that they are still trying to arrange alum interviews for R1 applicants...let's see...HBS has dinged me, Wharton has not been kind, will Kellogg disappoint as well?

i listed 6-month internship I did under full-time work experience. is that ok or will the ad-com hold it against me? I genuinely thought 6 months for a significant period hence listed it...

Good advice jerz and others. The reason for the short stint was because I apprenticed with him for free in the evenings after my official internship hours with a global bank. The opportunity to do this came late in the summer but I saw no reason to say no even if it was for one month. I would say this experience was the reason I got an IM gig out of college (not with him).

I see your point in why on its own, this listing this would raise questions. I wish there was more space to explain my reasoning for the 1 month, since i'm not mentioning the other 3 internships I had. I guess I'll go ahead and mention it anyway and see whether I can go over the limit in my goals essay.

Is it common for interviewers not to acknowledge your Thank You letter after the interview? Never happened to me before but happened with my K interviewer.
thanks
