You guys are seriously pessimistic! I just visited the admissions office while I was at the school and they said they did not even send the bulk of their interviews out as of yet. Its trickling in slowly. Also last year I had two friends that received interview invites a week before the final days. Just be happy you put your best foot forward and did all that you could...no point in getting all wrapped up...who knows what can happen.
Yay. :-D

I know my post came off pretty dark but what I was trying to convey is that, given the numbers - and despite being a pessimistic person - I do think there's still hope. But if some people cope better by underplaying their chances in the hopes of minimizing disappointment (and this is usually my strategy), I can dig it. To each her own.

Personally I like your scoop.

Great initiative JordinT!!

I seemed to be in the R2 pool twice. I wish that would double my chances of getting in but since it does not you can remove one
entry.

I've noticed that you're a re-applicant this year and with very impressive acceptance record this year. How was your outcome for
the other schools you had applied to last year? And what do you think enabled your application to improve so dramatically? (If you don't mind my asking)

hi all, i updated roll call for recent requests.

in terms of my re-applicant status, i only applied to gsb (ding no interview) and kellogg (ding after interview) last year. in terms of what i think changed/helped:
- better essays: last year I was reluctant/shy about letting others read my essays but this year, I had 1-2 people read each essay. Combination of people who know me really well, people who don’t know me as well (what adcom would be), people who have succeeded in the process and just good writers. I think it takes a while to nail the essay formula down and just because of that, my later apps were better. also I tried to make sure that each thing I wrote had a purpose and said something specific about me.
- Better recommender choice/prep: last year 2 of my recommenders didn’t even finish their letters until the night before they were due and I had to help them (while I was still scrambling to finish my own essays). This year, I gave all my interviewers potential examples to use and themes/qualities that I was highlighting in my essays (hoping they would do the same). I think painting a cohesive and consistent picture is important. Also asked a partner that has a top mba to write me a letter which I think helped, since he knows exactly what they are looking for
- others – got a promotion between now and then. applied to more schools!
- Fyi I did use a consultant for one of the schools… the one I didn’t get an interview/or get into. Not sure how worth it they are.

good luck everyone!

Thanks JordinT. That certainly helps. +1

This is kinda funny.... but sucks because it likely ruined my chances for an GSB interview :\

I was at Bloomingdales, buying a new suit for my HBS interview (which doesn't really warrant a *new* suit, but in my job I don't wear suits and the only one I own I bought in 2003 from Banana Republic).

A woman was in there as well, trying on clothes for her wedding. She was absolutely gorgeous. The Bloomingdales attendant told her that I was buying a suit for my HBS interview. The beautiful woman said "Congrats! I went to Stanford GSB! "

THEN I said "OMG I am so mad at that school I could just burn it down!" totally kidding, and referencing how excruciating it's been to see the interviews slowly trickle out without getting one myself. But still - my comment was *way* too dramatic. That's what these forums do to us though :p

She told me she gives some of the interviews, so of course I asked if she knew whether all the invites were out yet. However she's not doing interviews this year (traveling) so she didn't know. She was super nice though, and one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen.

Anyways, thought I'd share my foot-in-the-mouth moment. I am sure it didn't do well for my chances - HA!

I recently had a somewhat similar experience. I had a high school reunion a few days ago and was talking
about grad school with some of the guys. I was congratulated for my Kellogg acceptance by some people and another guy over heard and jumped into the conversation with a "Congrats man. I went to Stanford GSB!!"
THEN I said " What is the matter with the school!!" and harassed him about the slow interview trickle for the next 30 minutes.

But he was nice enough to offer me a mock interview if I did get an invitation. And he also confirmed the awesomeness of the school!!

Hi team, new to this blog but since I have found reading your posts really helpful would like to chip in too.

Could someone kindly add me to the rollcall. I'm a Round 2 applicant, invited for interview.

Thanks for an amusing start to my morning, colequinn!

I actually have to go out and buy a suit also, because in warehousing industry nobody wears one... I'm going to put it towards the "MBA applications" line in my budget. ;-)

I highly, highly doubt that this lady would care to call up Stanford admissions and tell them to check every young woman in a brand new suit for matches in her pocket. And it's also unlikely that she'll agree to interview anybody right now when she's busy planning her wedding AND traveling.

At least now we all know for sure... getting into Stanford GSB leads to a happily-ever-after complete with a prince on a white limo and a perfect wedding!

Another reason to boost Stanford up as my number one...and another reason my HBS interview (which I felt went well <knock on wood>) doesn't make me feel any better.

J/k, j/k, seriously though this trickle crap irks me to no end, plus I do not like my chances - two of the four schools I applied to send the majority of their invites out in one big wave - MIT LGO and HBS - and I got invites for both. Wharton on the other hand I sat there for weeks waiting for my interview, only to not get one. I don't like how Stanford is shaping up the same way (at least it seems NO ONE is getting an interview, where at least W was a steady one or two every day)...

Stanford will send interviews out all the way until mid March.

    2 1/2 more weeks buddy...sit tight :)

With a HBS interview, I would be shocked if you didn't land one at Stanford.

glad that some of you find my experience helpful! it was really hard to push myself to re-apply, especially considering how depressed i was after last year, but i am so glad i did it.

also updated rollcall. starred names of people who requested to be added after they received interview invites (which might indicate over-representation. I don't know, they do this in other forums)

    JordinT,

You are definitely an inspiration! I'm very happy to hear that you've been doing so well this year and it keeps my spirits high when I consider the possibility of zero admits in this stressful waiting period. :-)

"Current State: 2/24/2010: Round 2 interview invitations continue to trickle out the admissions office. "

This weekly update is essentially what's keeping me sane/hopeful - ideally it'll do the same for everyone else! I'd post the link, but I haven't amde enough posts yet to do so - just google Clear Admit Wiki, and it gets updated weekly.
