Did anyone have trouble pasting the essays? I had to paste from wordpad and ended up losing the double space

There is no rich text editing in the application. I would copy and just edit in the application to the best of its ability. I just did spaces between paragraphs. Keep it really simple.

Likewise I was all over notepad last night. I was confident that my essays would be readable & although it was annoying to keep formatting stuff, there was no attitude involved :twisted:

They send them on a rolling basis until very close to the deadline, so there's a long way to go...

It was terrible. Everytime I saved my essays the paragraph breaks would disappear. They never persisted.. never persisted man!!!

well guys i had submitted the app 2 days back and on reviewing it closely today notice that one of the essays is messed up, strange lines are all over the place.. What do I do? I emailed the adcom saying not sure why the copy-paste did not work, but will let me update this one essay? I don't like their online system at all!!

I have the same fear. Went under review 10/28 :( . However, a lot of people have mentioned that the application review process is random and that Hass does send invites till quite late in the process. So i am hopeful

Hit submit a little more than 2 hours before the deadline... so I'm in for R2. :) Didn't think the final touch-ups, copy+pastes, re-formatting would take as long as they did. All said and done though.

I must say the entire copy-paste thing went crazy! I mean all of the essays were fine but the last copy-paste totally messed up the essay and mixed up the order of sentences! I worked an hour on fixing it, thinking I might not make it. Too bad one can't upload a PDF as an essay.

Yeah seriously.
Anything that had a residue of abnormality (ie. sent it to my father on Word and he wrote back with a comment, or I had an unusual character, or a link) went haywire in terms of sentence order when you process it into the Haas system.
Luckily I happen to have a serious soft spot for Berkeley!

It can happen w/o a comment or link or whatever. It just went crazy. There was nothing in that essay that other essays didn't have... It took the last 2 sentences in couple of paragraph and put them at the beginning of those paragraphs... And it wasn't fixed by cut and paste again... weird.

Oh yeah..I faced that messed up paragraph issue too. I fixed to best of my knowledge and I had to spend a lot of time formatting (time that could be used to do some quality checks). The system could be made better for sure

Not sure if recommenders got the same issue. Don't think they would have taken a detailed look like we did...
