Submitted R2 this morning --- dang it feels good to be a gangster!

A year from now, someone will look at this and my profile and see that I either got in or rejected and know whether my current excitement is in vain or not. But right now... hope blossoms eternal :)

Im with you man. I think the only way to be is stay positive. I think anyone, even the rockstars, can convince themselves that there is no way they are getting in. But in actuality, everyone's application has some sort of flaws. I have yet to see the 4.0, Ivy, 800, Started 9 companies and stopped world hunger candidate. Maybe its just me, but the majority of HBS kids I know are somewhat "normal." There are a lot more 700, Caucasian male, Top 30 univ, 3.6 GPA people than one would expect. Not sure that is the same with Stanford's small class size but i think there is some optimism in the HBS realm.

See ya'll at admit weekend ;)

In the personal information > contact address section, It only lists the states in the US and I am in India. If I don't select any state, I am not allowed to submit the application. Is anyone else facing this issue? :O

Maybe such candidate does not need to go to HBS to learn how to start or run a business?

Had a quick question about employment history - in the field 'reason for leaving', I am assuming I leave it blank if I'm still at the job? I was wondering if it is asking whi I'm *planning* on leaving the job to come to HBS but I'm probably overthinking.

Submitting in just a little bit now. Exciting!

For today I leave you with this tidbit from the admissions blog, on the topic of interviews:
Quote:
I know you will get anxious about this, but try not to spend too much time worrying about how many will go out on what date and what percentage are still to come and all that. It's just not productive and it makes me worry about you.

Aww...

Just leave it blank people - it's implicit that you'd leave your job if accepted to an MBA program. I worry about some of you. I love you all, but I worry.

mainhoon, are you sure they do not truncate (i am hearing conflicting info on this - a blog mentioned in this forum says they do not; on some webpages i heard they do)

I see this at https://www.hbs.edu/mba/admissions/blog-all.html (emphasis mine):
Quote:

Question: How rigid is the word-limit restriction? What happens if I go over?

This is the language we used last time about this; it's still true, and I can't think of a better way of saying it:

"Your essays do not get cut off if you go over the word limit. That being said, after reading many, many essays, we have a good feel for whether an essay is going over the limit. I think it's fair to say that we expect a candidate to be able to edit effectively, but don't stress over a few extra words.

We're getting a lot of similar questions from recommenders wondering if their remarks are being cut short. They aren't. We have suggested word limits for recommenders that amount to roughly a page of text; we do this to give those not familiar with writing recommendations a sense of an appropriate length of response. If your recommenders have more to say, that's fine. Their file upload doesn't get cut off after a single page or after a certain number of words."

My recommender just asked me about this. I referred him to the blog post above (thanks smartperson!) and said not to worry about going over the word limit by a bit. He was particularly concerned about the 'one page' limit - how are you supposed to fit 750 words on one page?

I have a question for those who got admitted in R1.
Is it OK to implicitly imply why those achievements are the most substantial in the 3 achievements essay?
Or do I have to explicitly say it?

For example, in one of them, I mentioned that it was one of the most challenging tasks I had to do and later on also mentioned what I was able to learn from the experience. I am hoping that these two points will imply why I consider the achievement as substantial.
Explicitly answer it would be better in my opinion because HBS actually asks flat out "why do you view them as such?" I personally think addressing why these achievements stand out for you is equally or even more important than the description of the achievements themselves.

Agree with my future classmate.

What do people write in the "additional information section"? I think this is the optional essay section?
