My problem is I don't know how close it was... Was I way off base, and have no chance if I try again. Or was I competitive but just missed being invited to interview. I will never know. I wish they provided some kind of feedback to unsuccessful applicants. Was it my ECs. Or essays. Or GMAT. Or GPA. Or recos. Or age. Or ethnicity. Or work experience. The official line is, it is a combination of all of the above, but that really does not help me improve my candidacy...
Some adcoms will give you feedback in the late spring or early summer once the admissions cycle is over with for the year--anyone know if HBS is one of them?
Your other option is to get a ding analysis from one of the admissions consulting companies. It may be a little pricey, but if it helps you put together a stronger package for next year it would be worth it.
weak sauce - 700 GMAT 2.77 GPA Ivy Engineering - BSEE/Philosophy 2 years - senior EE @ large cell phone manufacturer currently project manager ~ 2.8 years @ super awesome hardware/software company extra curric during school - founded rock climbing club and fundraising organizations post college - manage alumni interviewing group for norcal area - very active with admissions office and office of engineering dean
Has anyone in the past (ding without interview) received feedback from HBS on why they were rejected? What is the best method to ask? Email or Phone Call?

Dee provided a 1 hour window of time for a week so rejected applicants could call her for feedback after round 1 decisions. It's not the same this round? There's some content about this in this thread, I just don't remember which page.
Wow it really seems like we all got dinged - me too. Really sad, I wanted to make my family proud. Harvard is really the only M7 school / university which people over here know. Still crazy, I spoke to some alumni who were sure my profile would be appreciated: 26 / 710 / 118 / German Entrepreneur
Well, guys let's move on...
Congratulations to everybody who received an interview invitation. You will do well.
In retrospect I am still glad that I applied. The process itself caused me to stretch and dig deep. I learned alot about myself through this application and I know that it only served to strengthen my applications to other schools. I take comfort in knowing that I gave it my best shot. I will not have to wonder "what if I had applied to HBS?" the rest of my life.
Good luck to everyone. Exceptional things await all of us on the horizon!

Ding here as well. I completely agree with you friend. This ding does not affect me in any sense as I had no expectations when I applied. I just wanted to give it my sincere try so that I dont regret later. We all will make it big in our lives.
hey its a bright sunny morning with a bright cool breeze after a rain ... in the centre of India. I wish you all the best for your life ahead and the same to myself too. I will now soon be starting up on my own... as i wrote in my applications.
Another ding, it takes two in the same day. I would prefer direct rejection mail instead of status change gimmick, I guess 750 isn't enough or something is very wrong with me:)
Ding here too. I had a feeling, but oh well. Like a previous poster said, at least I know I gave it my best shot, and I don't have to regret "I wish I had applied to Harvard." My wife was great and did her best to cheer me up.
I already interviewed with Kellogg (interview waiver) and awaiting Stern - we shall see.
I just received a very nice email reply from Dee after I wrote her a little thank you email. Those of you who are in the upset/angry mode; please remember it's not about a fault in you, but is more about having a diverse class. Be gracious and keep moving forward. I know I am.

One day after ding, I am now starting to wonder why did I apply to Harvard. In retrospect, sometimes a person needs to understand the difference between dream and reality. I thought I will not feel bad if I dont get an admit because I atleast tried but now I do. I guess I have the answer now after getting a ding for the second time from HBS....I am not good enough to make it to HBS and I do accept it now
