I used only TTP and six official practice exams.

Thanks! Based on the TTP website, I used around 235 hours for both phases. If I were to remove my practice phase, my total hours should be around 200 - 220 hours.

Hi, thanks very much for sharing and congrats on the great score!

Just wondering if you have a count of the total hours you devoted to studying in your study phase?

All the best for your next steps.

Thank you so much for your reply.

Just to clarify: this 235 hours, or 200-220 hours, refer only to the time you spent on the TTP platform, right? The reason I asked is because if you studied on average 3 hours a day for 5 months (let's say 150 days), the total study time should be around 450 hours?

Yes, it is only the time I spent on the TTP platform; this does not include my time on the official practice exams and on my review notes. Nevertheless, I still was not clear about my total time spent because I believed that I spent less than 450 hours in total. After I recalled, this discrepancy could be attributable to the following facts:

1. I spent less time for GMAT prep on the weekends.
2. My preparation was actually around 4 - 5 months.
3. There were two weeks at least that I recalled I took a break for my graduation ceremony and for my family vacation.

Thank you for pointing this out!

Thanks for the clarification. I usually heard that TTP's content is huge, so was just curious what's the realistic amount of time to go through all the content.

It's also quite amazing that you did not practice OG questions at all and still achieved such a great score. Again, good luck for your application for Master's program.

Congratulations on your 715! TTP is indeed a great resource, especially for structured and detailed prep.

If you're considering helping others in the GMAT community, sharing specific strategies that worked for you could be valuable. Best of luck with your next steps!

I found Target Test Prep to be the best option for my learning style and prep situation. I had ~4 months to prepare for and take the test before needing to shift my timing priorities, and due to the nature of my work, I couldn't commit to a live class. I bought the 'Dedicated Study' package from TTP and the self-paced structure was perfect for me as I could knock out modules when I had the time or spend more time on sections with which I was having more difficulty. The way the course is structured ensures you touch on every concept that could be presented on the test in a variety of ways, and intermittent review quizzes are built in to make sure previously learned concepts stay fresh in your mind. I naturally struggled most with the quant section of the GMAT focus, and the TTP system drastically improved my abilities in that section - the way concepts are taught and layered sequentially makes complex problems easy to digest and tackle. I ended up getting a 665 on the GMAT Focus and got into several T10 MBA programs. Overall, I would highly recommend TTP to anyone who works well in a self-paced environment.

I started my preparation in November 2024. I was going to take the test in January 2025, but because of the official online test booking system being under maintenance, I took it in on the 5th of February. With some break in Christmas, I spent around 2 months on prep for GMAT FE.

As a complete beginner, my focus was how comprehensive the course is and how many questions they have. I took TTP flexible course because of that. I tried checked all the chapters for Verbal as I am from Japan, and it was the toughest section for me. Even though I was constantly in the 40th percentile or sometimes even in the 4th percentile, as I went through all the chapters and all the questions, I ended up scoring 87, 98th percentile in verbal section in the actual exam.

Also, AI assistance for verbal section was indispensable. As all of us have different ways of understanding the passage and questions, AI providing a tailored answers to any question were the best way to dial in my approach to each question type.

My strength is math. So, Q and Di were going to be easy, but the time constraint was harsher than I thought. The number of questions was perfect. They have easy, medium and hard difficulties. So, you can find the perfect balance of efficient learning and diving into specific subsections. It is one of the cheapest courses, if not the cheapest. So, the number of questions not being too many, which would cause inefficient and prolonged preparation. So this course was perfect to prepare and be confident enough to start the official mock exams a lot quicker than it would have taken if the course had more question sets.

Overall, the course was perfect to me, it was a lot cheaper, and I got 715 in the end at my first attempt. I recommend this course to any beginner.

Hi, thank you very much for sharing.

If you don't mind, can you also share how much time you spent studying prior to your first test? How about between your first and second test?

Did you use any Official Guide practice materials?

Thanks in advance.

finbe
If I were to give any advice it would be to keep going through the doubt. This can be a long process and there will be times when you might question if all the studying will be worth it, but it will be. Every single point you get on the test matters, so you will never be upset with working until you achieve the best score you can.

Super happy with my GMAT FE 665 score as it puts me at a significant advantage for my target school (which I was just recently accepted to :)).

I started my GMAT prep in 2024 in March, with me purchasing the GMAT books and starting there. I knew early on that Quant was going to be my toughest section, and I quickly realized that I needed some extra resources to help me improve my scores.

My first benchmark GMAT was a 595 (Q: 77, V: 83, DI: 78) and my goal was to get it to a 615 or above. Biggest opportunity was in Quant, where the 77 I scored translated to a 46th Percentile...
So I did my homework and really looked for a test prep course that offered both a holistic focus as well as a rigorous Quant methodology.

The overwhelming consensus was to utilize Target Test Prep, and after using TTP for about 6-7 months, I can say in hindsight that it absolutely works. The disclaimer here is that, IMO, you get what you put in.
I work full-time in NYC and between occasional long hours, hour-long commutes, and my own personal life, there wasn't always a lot of spare time to sit down and study. That's why TTP's self-paced course really came in handy, where I could dedicate as much time as I could and not feel like I'm falling behind.

Not only could I hone in on specific topics and deep dive into the granular details to master the topic, I could also review previous topics with cumulative quizzes that made sure I was recalling things I studied a week or month ago. For someone who has a busy schedule, this was exactly what I needed to make sure I was honest to myself and stayed on top of my Quant progression.

The final week leading up to the exam was pretty stressful and I barely got sleep the night before, but I followed my routine (light breakfast, small iced coffee, Spotify playlist, etc) and performed well enough to land a 665!

In hindsight, I definitely should have given myself more time to recover after work. Some days I pushed myself to study, even when I didn't have the brain power to retain any info. I took 1 day off from work prior to my GMAT but I think I should have taken at least 2 or 3--enough time to let it sink that my exam was actually around the corner!

First off, I get it. This test is very difficult. I spent many nights agonizing over this and studying hard just trusting the process because I saw similar posts to the one I'm writing now -- so hope this can give those of you who need motivation a bit more. I remember taking my first GMAT focus practice test assured I would do well and getting an awfully low score for my goals. I don't remember the exact score but somewhere in the 500s maybe even 490 or so. I dedicated the next 10 months or so to TTP studying everyday and on my first real test got 715 (99th percentile). The secret I have? There really was none other then just literally following TTP to a tee. It's a long course - there's no denying that. But I can't thank them enough for the amazing course because it really did freaking work.

As good as the course may be, it must also be the case that you also used it well/had good prep habits.

So, nice work, and may all go well for you with your apps and everything else.

Any update on your apps, Shivam?

Yesterday, I received an admit from my dream B school. It had a special weightage of GMAT (30 % ) and I had the highest score. Also when I gave SDA Bocconi interview, the interviewer mentioned that I have a very good GMAT score and discussed about my GMAT journey. Some top colleges in the world have a special weightage to the GMAT score as it brings transparency in the selection process (profile can be faked but not GMAT score).
Congrats, Shivam!

Also, that's really interesting about some schools' emphasis on GMAT scores. It's true that, in multiple ways, a GMAT score can be a better indicator than other aspects of an application.
