I went to the Tuck Reception in Philly last night. The adcom lady was VERY VERY VERY nice. The alumni were also very nice and down to Earth. Definately not the cookie cutter, elitist snobs one would expect from a top tier business program.

The info session was pretty much what they have on their website.... with a little bit of elaboration. It is def worth going because the question and answer session is much more informative.

I tried to make an impression....showed up early (adcom thanked me), wore pastels (shirt and tie), registered ahead of time (adcom mentioned I was one of the first to sign up). Of course she will not actually remember me, but you never know :-D

Any Alumni's too presented? or only adcoms. Also, can you share some QnA?

The alumni were there for the Q and A, not the actual presentation.

Some questions:

Q: How is Tuck for spouses?
A: They said its great. Then went into detail about how married couples all live in some complex and all the wives (and husbands) become friends and get the same Tuck networking without all the homework.

Q: In a bad economy, how does recruiting look at Tuck?
A: One alumn pointed out how during economic downturns, Tuck recruiting remains constant even though it dips at other top schools. He attributed this to the loyalty of Tuck alumns who are often recruiters.

Q: What is the competition like between students?
A: (Handled by an alumn) Said its more collaborative than anything, then cited how you work hand in hand with your study groups. Also gave an example how multiple students interviewing for the same spot will assist their classmates if they already interviewed.

Q: How does Tuck handle elective selections?
A: Students rank a set of electives and admissions makes sure students will be able to get into their top choices. This info also allows for Tuck to structure new electives based on peoples preferences.

Q: How does Tuck assist career changers?
A: Both career development and the clubs will help individuals prepare for the switch (then went into the boring detail of how).

There were probably alot more I cant think of right now. I took notes but they are at home!

Ask them what role reported salaries play. I'm curious how they use the info.
