From the UCLA Anderson Blog:

The MBA Admissions team is excited to announce that our Round 1 applications are up by more than 20% as prospectives worldwide recognize the growing value offered by the UCLA Anderson MBA program. Innovations in our curriculum spark the interest of those looking for strong career preparation, while our exciting location and collaborative culture have enduring appeal. Streamlining our application also helped as we make it easier for candidates to present their case to join the UCLA Anderson family. With career outcomes for current students at a buoyant level, it is clear that we are a school on the move.

File reading is in full swing and interview invitations have started going out this week. Although it is still relatively early in the application season, we are optimistic that the size and quality of our applicant pool will continue to impress us in Rounds 2 and 3.

We look forward to seeing your application!

I also received an invite on 11/16

Congratulations on the invite! We have recently put a podcast on MBA interviews. Listen to what you need to ace the MBA Interview that may change your life!-

------------------------------------------
Ace that MBA Interview!

The personal interview is a very important step in your efforts to get admission to your dream business school and should not be taken any lighter than the rest of your application; almost every top MBA programs will not accept an applicant without having an interview. The motivation is :

a) to analyse and assess your overall "marketability"
b) to aggressively find the best applicants and sometimes, to keep them away from other competitive schools
c) to pitch their own MBA programs

... listen to the podcast [~17 mins]
-----------------------------------------------

Hope it helps!

Interviewed today over lunch and coffee. Honestly, I wouldn't even really call it an interview. It was definitely 100% about fit, seeing if I was an outgoing, friendly type of personality that would fit with the Anderson culture. Of course, we briefly touched upon the basics like why I was going to do an MBA, but there were no pointed questions or follow-up type stuff. In fact, my interviewer flat out didn't even want to look at my resume until the conversation was over. After a few minutes of basic introductions, we mostly just talked about what life was like at Anderson, the recruiting process, finding a job afterward, and some stuff related to entrepreneurship. And we chatted about the real estate market in china for about 20 minutes. All in all, the conversation lasted one hour. I think the interview style was very reflective of the type of laid-back California culture at Anderson. It was by far my most relaxed and enjoyable interview, and it even raised my opinion of the school quite significantly.

I wonder when they will send out more invitations? It seems (at least based on this forum) that they only sent out a handful. Then - nothing...

Based on last year's thread it looks like they rolled out interviews pretty consistently right up until Christmas. Hopefully a few more of us hear good news shortly.

I think it's far too early to make any assumptions as to being dinged or not.

Also, I think it might be fair to infer that they did review applications for certain geographical areas (California?), given the below post on the admissions Facebook page:

iPads bring a paperless world to MBA Admissions
by UCLA Anderson MBA Program on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 3:42pm
Our application process has gone completely paperless now, as we started evaluating candidates on our iPads. Using new software we can zoom in on PDF's of everything submitted on-line and rate candidates on our metrics including academics, leadership, focus and personal skills. It's fun to highlight evidence that proves the high quality of our applicants!

So far we have focused our reading on certain geographic areas and now we are turning our attention to the whole wide world. Interview invitations will follow fast in the next few weeks as we read our way through the applicant pool. No more piles o' files here though -- everybody just gets their turn on-screen.

Speed and depth in our evaluations are both enhanced with the new iPad tool. Our admission committee members can share insights more readily than ever as we find the best people to join the UCLA Anderson family. Brave pioneers are welcome here to help us shape this brand new era.

GoNiners,

Thank you so much for your insightful note indeed!
Allowed me to take some breath!

Btw, if I am not mistaken, XZeepplin (who got an invitation last week) was stationed in China.
So, just wondering which "geographic location" they really refer to?

What's the name of their Facebook Page?

I don't think you need to worry about the status. It appears that the few who have received invites did not have a change in status in the online application.
