Has anyone been successful in bargaining for fellowships/scholarships?

I tried after received a half-tuition fellowship from USC and was unsuccessful. They sent me to financial aid :/

Hi vwwong, may I ask you who you contacted to deal fellowship. I contacted some but received no responses. :(

Did any round 2 applicants get waitlisted and then invited to interview right away?

lol. Yep, literally within the same day. I've decided not seek to get off the waitlist as I've gotten accepted by my top choice, but it was surprising to have finally gotten that interview invite from Anderson but right after getting waitlisted.

I was able to set up a myUCLA login last week and login without issue until about Thursday. Now, every time I try to login, I receive an error message.

I see an error page that says my ID is not linked to any UCLA accounts. Very strange and frustrating.

What does the myucla login allow us to do?

I just got off the phone with the myUCLA help desk because I was confused. myUCLA is separate from the "My Housing" site and both are separate from URSA (used to pay your "BruinBill"). However, all three use the UCLA logon and password you need to create, and all three login pages look exactly the same. I have logged into both the My Housing application website and the URSA website so far and didn't realize myUCLA is a third separate site. The help desk guy said he thinks grad students don't need myUCLA until we start registering for classes.

For any other wait listed candidates, I just got the following email from UCLA:

"We are currently examining our Wait List candidates in parallel with our Round 3 applications. At this point we expect to admit some people in early May, and others on or before June 6th. All applicants will receive an update by June 6th. Candidates who volunteer to stay on the wait list during the summer may be admitted at a later date."

Just FYI for the price, amenities and location, the UCLA housing complexes are unbeatable. Especially University Village on Sawtelle and Sepulveda Blvd.

I will second the fact they have great prices and some good amenities. You also have the peace of mind knowing your landlord is probably not trying to screw you, plus the lease is month to month. However, I will caveat that with taking your personal situation and noise aversion level into account.

I have a friend who lives in University Village, and if I had kids, it would be amazing to live there: onsite daycare, swimming pool, playgrounds, the works. However...when I went to visit her, her kids were jumping up and down, I could hear the neighbor kids jumping up and down and she said that you will be able to hear babies crying. There were literally kids everywhere. She said it doesn't bother her because she has kids, but personally, as a childless married couple, it would drive me and my husband crazy, especially if we were trying to work or study.

I also drove around the housing complexes further south. They cancelled the actual A-days housing tour, but I feel like I was able to get a good sense of the neighborhoods at least. If you have specific questions, feel free to PM me, but I will say, they are pretty far away from the action. I guess that can be a pro or a con depending on what you're looking for. Also it's about a 30 minute commute on surface streets, but there is a BruinBus shuttle that stops right in front of each southern complex, I believe once an hour.

I would sum it up by saying if keeping your housing budget as tight as possible is your number one priority and/or you have kids or a significant other who is looking for a real support network, the graduate family housing is a fantastic option. If you don't fit either of those categories, I think you can find a comparable place much closer to campus for a few hundred dollars more.

^^ completely agree with the above post but to be fair the University Village Housing Complex is only for married graduate and phd students. And for that age group of married people, who have or are planning to have kids,it is a perfect location/environment.
The 30 minute commute on surface streets is because of traffic. If you have a scooter/moped you reach UCLA in 10 mins(speaking from first hand experience) .Heck! you will reach UCLA faster on a bicycle than your car when commuting from the University village through LA traffic.
