Hi,
UK Tier 4 Visa requirement mentions that Higher Education Institution (HEI) is allowed to maintain their own testing standards for evaluating the language skills of prospective students. It need not necessarily be by way of a language test, say IELTS or TOEFL or PTE.
With this context, say I have been waived off by a school (assume it to be an HEI in this case) from English language test, so does this also mean I am automatically waived off from a language test for Tier 4 Visa purposes or should I have to take a separate test for Visa requirement?

I think it says that either to have an IELTS or a proof letter from your sponsor (HEI) exempting you from this requirement. You may have to contact the institution for this.
it says:
Make sure that you have all of the necessary supporting documents, including:
*Valid passport
*ATAS clearance certificate (if required)
*Valid TB test certificate showing you do not have TB (if required)
*Evidence of qualifications listed on your CAS (*)
*Evidence that you meet the English language requirement, or are exempt from the requirement
*If you will be under 18 on the date that you apply for your visa, you will need a letter from your parent/legal guardian confirming their relationship to you and that they consent to your study and living arrangements in the UK and your travel arrangements. You will also need evidence of your relationship with your parent/legal guardian (e.g. birth certificate, certificate of adoption)
*Receipts for any tuition fees and/or accommodation costs that you have already paid to your institution, if this information is not included on your CAS
*Evidence that you can meet the strict financial requirements. Many Tier 4 refusals are caused by incorrect financial documents. It is very important to check that yours meet the requirements and that you have held the correct level of funds for the necessary period of time. See 'Evidence you meet the maintenance requirements' and 'Consent of current or previous official financial sponsor' for information (*)
*Translations of any documents that are not in English or Welsh
