I had posted earlier asking about Goizueta vs Scheller, but have since received an acceptance from UNC Kenan-Flagler. I am now trying to decide between UNC and Emory. Have already spoken with a couple of students and alumni at both schools. Posting here in case I get any additional perspective.
One common feedback I have received for both these schools is that students have to be proactive and seek out recruitment opportunities - as there is no established recruiting pipeline for Tech.
Post-MBA goals: Tech Product Management
Background: 4 YOE at the time of matriculation. Computer Science undergrad. Software Development experience at product startups.
International (Indian) applicant.
Post-MBA Location: I feel location agnostic at this point. Perhaps because, as an international applicant, I do not know a lot about the pros and cons of each location. Plus, I haven’t developed any preference yet through conversations with alums/students.
UNC Kenan-Flagler- 80k Forte Fellowship (~60% tuition)
- All concentrations are STEM designated
- Strong alumni network
- I think I would really like the college town environment (this is not a deciding factor, just a preference)
Cons/Questions: - Recent debate about lack of support for international students + subpar recruitment outcomes for internationals - Current students are saying that this is a covid-induced anomaly and that things are bouncing back.
- The Research triangle location - How much does this benefit students trying to recruit for Tech PM?
- Given the location, will I have to travel a lot for networking and recruiting events? How much of a hassle is this going to be?
Emory Goizueta- 90k Merit Scholarship (~65% tuition)
- Current students shared that Goizueta’s Career Center is doing great work + record placements in recent times
- Atlanta; Ease of networking as many Tech companies have offices here.
Cons/Questions:- Great placements for Consulting, but not so much for Tech. Alum (2021 grad) mentioned that there is no established recruiting pipeline for Tech.
- Local logistics and support for internationals is a matter of moderate concern (according to a current first-year)
- Have to pursue Business Analysis track for STEM-designation
